Do You know that the majority of that broken 360 were replaced by MS, with a HUGE cost to them? Don't you know they even extended the warrantie because of that? in Europe MS replaced your 360 during 3 whole years for RRoD without asking nothing, and givin away free months of gold or even games, as a compensation? You know that without RRoD the 360 would have been WAY more profitable, and without all the negative press during the early years they could have already sold more units?

Have you seen that the total software sales of the past generation? The differente between PS3 and Xbox 360 are around 30m games in favour of the 360? what are you talking about? you're just trolling.

You made that up.  The majority of broken 360s were replaced again and again by the people who bought them, but fuck the consumer, right?  Didn't read the rest.   The correct statement is that Microsoft offered to replace there broken shit because it was their broken shit and they were required (in some cases) to fix their boken shit... lest there wouldn't be a Xbox brand today.  I suppose there are people who will actually get on their god damn knees and praise Microsoft for releasing broken shit just so they can be the good guys and fix their broken shit. OH THANK YOU MERCIFUL MASTERS!

And I don't have a problem with Microsoft.  I started out analyzing their situation to respond to OP.  What should Microsoft do?  I gave my thoughts and some trolling corporate slaves cut their own wrists to save a dead queen.  Guys, I'm not attacking Microsoft.  So please calm down.

I already gave my thoughts.  What do you think Microsoft should do?

Microsoft spent over a Billion bucks over a 3 year period in repairing and replacing Xbox 360's.

Think about how many Xbox 360 consoles you could buy and repair with a Billion bucks... Repairs would have been cheaper than replacing the entire consoles outright too, which was the majority of cases.
Of course you will get people who will say "stuff it" and just replace the console with a new one and ignore the warranty, but not everyone did.

Sony isn't perfect either. YLOD was a big issue, so was the hacked online, the removal of features, exploding battery's... You name it.

Consumers tend to have short memory's though, so most of that is all forgotten.

No, Microsoft assumed the vast majority of replacements, and the cost of succesive revisions of hardware . It was their duty, they didn't because they are an ONG, but they did it, and they payed for it. You are saying that the 360 real userbase is less than half of the sold units. This is plain false, and software sales figures proves you wrong. shit, they even sold 24 millions of kinects, are you saying that the 70% of 360's user base bought kinect? There's no way in hell that 360's userbase were less than half ps4's but managed to sell more games during the generation.

please...

Yes this is correct.  I am standing up for the people who did actually replace their consoles again and again.  I am not deny they replaced many units.  They did.  Only that they were SUPPOSED to.

This is also correct and I don't think anyone has forgotten.  My PS3 slim actually is on its last leg, but after 7 years I am okay with that.  This, however, doesn't excuse the fact that people had to replace their units because of overheating.  The point is that the PS3 had a far less cases of console failure than the 360.  I really believe that the reason why the Xbox One is lagging in the US and UK has something to do with the fact that the amount of 360 owners is seriously overstated.  It was however the top console in the US and that was mostly due to price.  So I suppose that would be another reason.

I think ms will be market leader in the next gen

I was refering to the PS3 not the PS4.  I would peg the userbase at around 40-50 million.  The software sales in the US definitly indicate the base was defintly higher than the PS3.  There is no way the PS3 was gonna beat the Xbox 360 in the US because the PS3 was just plain overpriced for ages.   And about the 360 Kinect attach rate, it would be skyhigh no matter what figure you use.  Even at 80 million a 24 million attachment is still sky high.  Its really amazing when you think about it.  Is it really a gimmick if it sold that much?  Thats a topic for another day and I think I could successfully argue that it was not a gimmick.

See, I don't think they want to be a part of the conosle market anymore.  I think they want to take a shot at dominating the PC market.

"And also because the Xbox was so prone to breaking.  Divide their sales in half and you still have more units than actual owners. "

That's what you said, don't soften your statements now. If you're gonna say that 360's userbase whas less than a half of the units that was sold, at least maintain it till the end.

I think MS like they did with the first XBox is going to bail on this generation cycle. They can't win it.

XBox 2 in fall 2017, full upgrade from XB1, 10 TFLOP processor (14nm) + 16GB HBM2 RAM, 2K-4K resolution support, 4K Blu-Ray, upgradable system, runs full Windows.

2016 we get Polaris and Zen at 16/14nm. -
2017 we get the refinement with Vega.
2018 we get Navi with next gen memory (Something FASTER than HBM!). - This is my bet for the Xbox Two.

In 2017 AMD plans to release a 200-300w APU probably using GCN Gen 4.0 and Zen, likely in combination with HBM, this is likely the earliest possible time  for the Xbox Two... And the PC also gets an APU that will likely make the PS4 look last century.

Polaris is a mainstream product though. Seems to have made some massive gains in efficiency. But what about performance? Seems to me it's target will be more power sensitive market segments like notebooks. Vega is where the performance jump is truly at.

So, 2018 is IMHO the right time for the next Xbox, the technology cards fall into the place then and there, the Xbox One is still selling well, just overshadowed by it's main competitor.

Here is hoping to a short console generation!

I mistake PS3 with PS4 on this paragraph, on this site we have global sales figures, not only USA. Even if PS3 was overpriced for years, if the userbase was 40 millions, it would be impossible that 360 could have sold more games than a 80 millions ps3's userbase.

You can try to distract with if it was MS work  pay or not the replacements, or if Kinect was or not gimmicky (that of course it was). Is imposible that 360 sold less than a half it seems, and managed to be profitable and sell more games than ps3.
