they will always reveal some xbox numbers.
just not the numbers, consolewarrior want for theire fight. and that's a good thing. beside fanboys and pr statements, no1 cares about absolute unit sales numbers anymore in the industry. ea, activsion and ubisoft didn't stop to give out numbers because they were bad. they stopped, because it's not gen 6 anymore. selling a copy and be forgotten does not make you money in the long term.

Xbox hardware revenue decreased 9%, mainly due to a decline in Xbox 360 console volume. Xbox One revenue decreased slightly, due to higher console volume, offset by lower prices of consoles sold.

they sold in more xbox ones q4cy2015 compared to holiday 2014
ms sold 6.6m xbox consoles in q4cy2014 (xbox one and 360 hardware)
my best guess: xbox one hardware units were up, but total xbox hardware units were slightly down

But I still would like some concrete numbers, not the "we are doing better than 1 year before".I mean, that would also be good, but the best is that if we know official concrete numbers. And I dont want those numbers just for some stupid fanboy or console war.I want to know it because I like to know how well the companies are doing, for better or for worse. This is one of the reasons that I(and many here I assume) came to the site in the first place:To know how well their beloved franchise/companies/consoles are doing. And nothing would satisfy me more than some numbers.Thats it.

I find quite astonishing that the first thing people thought about my comment was that I wanted the numbers was just to start some console wars nonsense

You maye have innocent intentions, but concrete numbers would only serve fans with the intention to puff their chest in victory. Not here, but Youtube, Gamespot, IGN, and various forums with a less.......pleasant crowd like here.

Concrete numbers literally benefit the haters more then people like you, which is unfortunate for you and me who just want some clarity.

But the general vibe is that they are doing fine enough on their own steam. Not crazy profits, and hopefully no big losses, but I imagine they are fine because of games like Minecraft.

Remeber, Minecraft sales (+ Story Mode version) on ANY platform go towards MS's gaming bottom line. Also Minecraft merchandise like Lego, plushies, handbooks, cloting, etc. Whatever MS gets a cut from goes towards Xbox bottom line. I do take a small pleasure in thinking Playstation gamers are literally funding Xbox in their own way ;)

If Gold subscriptions are up YoY compared to same quarter of 2015, but are down between quarters of 2016, of course there are up and downs in the number of gold suscribers. duh

MS doesn't give numbers for gold subs, only total active Xbox live users.

Equally there's more people connected, gold or not, that in the same quarter last year. Of course there's less than in holiday season,  probably is the same every year, this is why almost every year take the same quarter of the last year to evaluate their results.

Sure, I just see a lot of people mistaking the 46 million figure with Xbox Live subs, which isn't correct. They say in the report that it's up YoY, and imo YoY comparisons are what you should look at in a seasonal industry like the gaming industry. So that's good enough for me.

The number you're using for March 2013 is incorrect.

updated to 46m

That's still incorrect. Microsoft never disclosed monthly active user numbers for March 2013.

The number then was for total registered users.

I see. Added more context.

I'm shocked Xbox live users went down since Xbox live is actually free on windows 10 and windows 10 has been gaining a pretty large user base.

So it seems after all that. This is actually the first time MAU has dropped since they reported it.  I suppose they want to hover around 50m all year.
