Forums - Sony Discussion - Did NX influenced on decision of sony making the PS4.5?

I seriously doubt Sony or (to a lesser extent) Microsoft is worried about anything Nintendo is doing.

I wouldn't go that far, I think Sony is confident sure, but I think Sony will carefully look at any potential threat to their marketshare carefully now simply because they are in general not in very good shape as a company.

They need the dominance in the console business badly.

They can't afford to have another Wii situation come in and catch them unaware, though I don't think PS4.5 is primarily motivated by Nintendo.

But I'm sure yes, Sony has asked AMD about the NX or some of their third parties, I'm sure they are interested.

Not sure what the fuck MS has accomplished to be so cocky either ... Nintendo could definitely usurp the XBox One.

Probably not. You don't build a new console in a year.

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

I think the PS4.5 was primarily "built" for testing the PSVR because you need to render two frames, one for each eye so naturally having two PS4s for testing purposes made sense. In the process of that, they probably started thinking "well what if we sold this as a consumer product?".

Apparently devolopers are already coming out and saying there not happy about PS4.5 we will see how this plays out.

Of course not.
They will always keep an eye on the competition but not the NX for this one.

Lol yeh, because a rumor basing itself on another rumor is anything of substance. I'm also sure the PS4 is trembling in the NX's looming arrival...

PS4k is confirmed and well, NX is all but confirmed. Why not speculate. It's what forums are for.

Until Sony officially announce it and the details, it isn't really confirmed. Chances are it will happen though. In regards to the NX, it is obvious Nintendo will put out a new console but we don't know a single detail about it.

I don't think that the consumers are different. It's more Nintendo's fault. They made underpowered consoles two gens in a row and that costs third party support.

Most games this gen aren't just coming on PS4 and X1, but also on PC. Even Japanese games that aren't moving a lot of sales on PC. But with architectures so similar, it's cheap enough to justify a port, even if you will only sell 100k units.

So, if Nintendo launches a console that makes porting easy and low cost, they will get the games. Full third party support + Nintendo games and they are back to the game, all guns blazing. It's just smart to prepare for a battle. If Nintendo launches a PS4-level or best console, with a simple architecture, no gimmicks and good pricing, they will can become a threat. Sony will try to counter with PS4K and VR. If MS doesn't do anything, they can start losing a lot of share. However, I'm starting to believe that they will just launch a low cost slim X1 and that could actually be a good play if Sony doesn't cut costs on the OG PS4 to cut the price significantly (I'm counting on NX being 250 to 300 bucks, it's a new console).

PS.: Before anyone complains, I'm not saying that games don't sell well on PC. Fallout, Skyrim, Battlefield and many others get millions of sales. However, most games indeed sell way less than their console counterparts. My point is that if PS4 and X1 were alien architectures, the cost to develop for both would be enough to avoid that developers create an entire new version just for PC. Think about GTA V. Game was probably a hell to develop for the aging PS360. PC version only came after PS4 and X1, because it was a much easier port.

No, they aren't. They were responsibl for the single most overwhelming generational win of any console manufacturer last generation with an installed base of 250m. No one at Sony or Microsoft is idiotic enough to look at Nintendo as an ant.

That's pretty much it. They just screwed up their strategy since 2011-12. They are pretty much a dangerous player. Nobody at Sony and MS is stupid enough to ignore a new console from Ninty. I'm 100% sure that they know more about it than we do and are already preparing their defense (PS4K, slim models, price cuts).

This holidays season will be awesome.

Sony and Microsoft don't even know what a Nintendo is.
