Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS4 NEO, 9th gen or not?

Acording to the new rumors, ps4 Neo won´t have exclusives, won´t have new pheripherals, won´t have new content, games just will be the same but will look better or have more fps than standar PS4.

With others generations we saw ad ons for consoles that brought more performance (sega 32x), or machines that were slimmer or with more storage capacity and considered them the same gen.

But now this will be a complete new machine that will coexist with the old one and share all the library of games and accesories.

Should it be counted as a 9th gen console? or should it be counted as a better 8th gen ps4? What about sales and statistics? should VGChartz put the NEO in the same bag as standar PS4?

Is there an Xbox 1.5 yet ? That should answer all your questions ...

It's still 8th gen. It sounds like it won't have its own games. It will just be able to run "regular" PS4 games faster, assuming developers have targeted the new configuration.

There are no gens any more, every console will get upgrades every 2-3 years from here on out.

Right, if the focus is not splitting the audience then its not 9th gen. Kinda why PC hardware isn't seen as a generation thing.

No way in hell that it's 9th gen.

bet: lost

Nope. 8th gen.

Put an expansion pack in a 64, it's still a 64.

still 8th Gen

Will it have a sizable portion of exclusive games? If yes, 9th generation. If not, 8th generation.

There you go.

Nintendo will have NX most likely at end of this year, PS4k will arrive around same time or same time after NX, XB1.5 or XB2 could arive probably at end of next year. IMO industry easily can count all of those consoles like 9th gen.
