Forums - Sony Discussion - Is the outrage towards PS4K proof that console gamers care more about performance and visuals than they're willing to admit?

The "proof" is only there if people buy into it. I think a lot of gamers would be fine with the base model, as it can still play the same games. But, there's nothing wrong with console gamers having options. Especially if they don't want to game on PCs. Though PCs get you better results though.

Some people who own the older model will feel like they now have a shorter penis. That's not necessarily the majority.

I'm more concerned in how this precedent may change the way some gamers approach future generations. Why buy a PS5 if, by the time the system has some exclusives worth playing, the PS5.5 will be shortly there?

"All signs are pointing towards Nintendo currently being well on their way towards completely killing the Wii U and I mean actually killing not the way Sony is "killing" the PS4 by the end of the year and that system is only 1 year older than the PS4. Sure it's because the Wii U is a flop, but who's to say that the NX won't be and that Nintendo won't be pulling the plug equally fast in that situation? To be screaming for Nintendo as the saviour in this situation is just stupid. "

wiiU --> NX or ps3 --> ps4 or 360 --> xbox sucks compared to ps4 --> ps4k --> ps5

so long as backwards compatibility is established that games need to run on hardware at least 6 years old so that i don't have to upgrade any more often than i'm already used to,... i love this new direction in hardware.

I believe that people are outraged because they fear that PS4 gets exclusive games, exclusive VR content or that newer games simply run like crap on the older PS4, lime we saw with some (limited) cases on New 3DS.

I'm not planning to buy a PS4K because I'm happy with my current unit and would rather keep my money for the future PS5. Of course, if I was buying it now or if my current unit got busted, I would most likely get a PS4K. If a friend asks if he should get a PS4 right now, I would probably ask him to wait, since the regular model will either be replaced by a cheaper slim version or will get a hefty price cut, so even if you want the regular unit, now is a bad time to buy it.

I see it as something that can be positive. Gens will probably never last 5 years again. Nowadays, games can take 5 year to be released. Last gen, the real PS3 games only kicked out for real in 2009/10, so I believe that we will still have a 7-year generation. PS360 suffered a lot of the last two year because they were heavily outdated and even low end PCs were a better deal while phones were already catching up. 2012/13 was when a lot of games flopped. An upgraded unit may allow PS4 to reach 7 years with much healthier sales.

I reserve my judgment to the official announcement and the months after launch. It all depends if Sony wants to screw the previous consumers or not. If handled correctly, they can keep the low cost current unit and the new premium version on market and sales will skyrocket, maybe closer to PS2 numbers. If they screw the current fanbase, then maybe that will be the chance for MS and Nintendo to rise up to the occasion and score a massive win.

I believe most of the "outrage" is a false protest, sure the complaint may be legit, but when it comes down to it, once that bad boy Neo is released you will be hypnotized and can't resist the upgrade.

I'm sure there will be some that stick to their guns about not upgrading, but lets face it, most of you are core fans that won't settle for less.

This whole thing just shows how silly it is to chase power. Chase fun, people, don't chase power.

There will always be something "new" coming out. Power will become outdated, but fun lasts forever. :)

I certainly care. Always have. It's why I still don't game exclusively on my ColecoVision.

Feels that way to me. All these years the power of the PS4 was totally fine and the games look AMAZING and the human eye can't see faster than 24fps.

Stopped reading here.  That comment is completely false.  The human eye doesn't work like a TV.  But, that number is closer to 72.  Not 24.  What would be the point in having monitors that do 60 fps, if we can only see a fraction of the output?  Fighting games, and other games required to run at 60FPS, because it's built into the game mechanics themselves, would be impossible to play.

Some of the fastest moves in fighting games have a 2-3 frame start-up.  There's nothing you can do about that stuff on sight to reaction.  You can see it coming, but there is nothing you can do about it, if you didn't predict your opponent doing it.  This is the case until you get to 14+ frame moves, with some people being able to react to moves with at few as 10 frames.  Keep in mind, I'm talking about games running at 60FPS.

Also, games on PS4 are riddled with jaggies, and they do have stuttering framerates.  So, from personal experience, it's not all that good looking, or doing too well in performance.

Bloodborne has stuttering sure but jaggies? only in specular do i see any jaggies.

I only see subpixel shimmering i don't ever see true jaggies in the best looking PS4 games.

I've never played bloodborne, so that game didn't come to mind at all. Also, what's everyone's deal? The PSP had upgrades too. It decreased load times. There wont be any exclusive games to the new PS4, and is basically an upgraded slim model.

You can enjoy the games two years early, or you could wait and get the upgraded PS4. Or out with the old, and in with the new. How many people threw out their PSP 1000s, for PSP 2000s? I didn't have a 1000 to begin with. But, now that I have a PS4, i still don't feel cheated. I've actually been using the thing.
