Underwhelming from a console perspective. This gen had too much hype following the previous generation.
From a PC perspective, it took a major leap not only in Hardware but also the games. Last generation it was PC or Consoles but now it seems PC is taking front row seat where having a console as a 2nd option is the way to go unlike last gen where PC was choosen as the 2nd priority. If your honestly not gaming on PC or atleast have a capable PC, your missing out big time.

I've enjoyed the 3DS more than the DS but I can't say the same about Wii U over Wii. I'm still happy with my Wii U purchase but it could have been a lot better.

This.

It's being a decent generation. Not amazing, but not bad either. But to be fair, Wii U disappointed me a lot and 3DS made up for it (it's a very good handheld, with its planning flaws, but with tons of great games). Plus, at the moment my PS4 is giving me a good amount of fun... there is at least 1 game I really want to buy for each month of the year. I don't own a XB1 or a Vita, so I don't know about those, but the later seems like a step back from the PSP.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Better than last gen for me. As a jrpg gamer I've been waiting years for a spell like this. Last gen sucked imo, when sonys dominating everything is good. Hence why PS1 and PS2 were so awesome.

Honestly as much as I enjoyed my PS1 and 2, I found the other systems to also be good. I'm also a believer in it being good when there is a neck and neck race, not a clear winner and clear set of losers, I don't find only one side completely outright winning to be objectively good for everyone, at best it's quite subjective.

I do have to question though, what is going to happen when that one genre you like starts to slow down or subside, do you stop gaming compeltely due to one genre slowing down or being dormant or do you look for other games and genres to jump into?, for example I really love RTS games and those are pretty dormant and yet I'm still gaming despite my favourite genre not thriving as much, it hasn't really stopped me from enjoying the games I play.

Other than the systems not selling well, what exactly are you seeing?

His history is wrong or uninformed.  Sega fouled up with the 32X and Sega CD add ons and then the Saturn was a mess.  The Dreamcast was doing decently for the time but Sega just ran out of money.  Running out of money caused Sega to drop the Dreamcast and go third party.  The only parallel I see is that Sony dominated that generation and the current.   The PS2 forced Sega to do numerous price cuts for the Dreamcast that they couldn't afford after their massive losses during the Saturn years.  Nintendo has barely even done a price drop on the Wii U.  So the only parallel is Sony dominating the home console market.

I lived through the SEGA CD, 32X, Saturn, Dreamcast fiasco. Having an opinion of that time is not uninformed. It's not just what SEGA did dropping the Dreamcast so fast. It's dropping all of these failed systems without supporting the people who bought them.

The parallels I see to Nintendo dropping support for Wii U so quickly are here. Look at the Game Boy Advanced. As soon as the DS system took off like a rocket Nintendo dropped the GBA so fast it made my head spin. Nintendo HAS stopped working on Wii U games.

Wii U owners will be left high and dry.

Hey! They got SONY on my amiibo! Wait a minute. Two great gaming tastes that game great together!

IT FUCKING SUCKS!!!!

I like this gen, but I feel like it needs a little more oomph, a few more unique games. So far, I'm very content with the... content they have put out, but several actions have given me some doubt on this gen, like the blatant microtransactions on MGS V, the episodic release of Hitman, a proliferation of online-only games, among other things.

No, I am not thoughts on the 8th gen.

I'll try to focus as much as possible on the Handheld since as of now the only 8th gen console that I own is a N3DS but I'll give some my 2 cents on the Consoles aswell.

First of all I think that overall the 8th gen is pretty amazing, while some might argue that companies tend too much to make ports/remakes/sequels to already established franchises I instead see lots of acclaimed new faces i.e. Bloodborne and Splatoon. Moreover I think we have finally reached the point where Indie titles can recieve the recognition that they deserve if they are good enough, major examples beeing Rocket League, Shovel Knight and most of the Kickstarter projects. Also while graphical improvements are slowing down for obvious reasons I see huge improvements on the games dimensions, while some argue that the dimensions of the world of a game don't matter and instead leave the player with an empty experience I've seen lots of games delivering with enormous worlds (see The Witcher and Xenoblade X) and still offering plenty of things to do in every place which in a Console market that is likely to get games to cost 70/80$ in the next few years is reassuring that at least we'll get to pay more for longer experiences...

3DS imho is my favourite handheld EVER. Probably a huge change that causes me to think so is that in the last few years I've been free to make my own purchases as opposed to when I was a kid but nonetheless it made up for a far superior experience. All of the games I have delivered with great gameplay and made me so happy of my 3DS purchase that I decided to buy a N3DS as well about a year ago.
