Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 Becoming The Perfect JRPG Machine

I can confirm this. Save for a few that I am not missing by not owning a PS4, some of these games are of... dubious quality...

I am missing only three or so games...

But more quantity means also more chances for games having quality or doesn't it?

I mean what is better 100 games with 20% of them being very good

or

10 games with 50% of them being very good?

But if you want all of them? you really have to get a ps4.

I wish I could say that argument worked, but that was a better argument for last gen. this generation is lopsided as all the generations before the PS3. In short Sony has the quality and quantity just by having the lionshare opposed to last gen.

Well that depends on who you're comparing it against. Only against other 8th gen consoles? Yeah, fair enough. But if you're saying perfect JRPG machine as in better than any/all others and hence comparing it against PS1/PS2 as well then yeah these games really need to prove their quality for such a comparison.

I agree. Sony has the ball in their court, but they really do need to make things happen for themselves with genre defining JRPG's. The golden era of JRPG's seems to have been the late 90's to mid 2000's. Then again, the fanfare and game sales was greater in Japan for games. With all that said, I wish Sony could get Sakaguchi to make them another game, but I bet it would go to either MS or Nintendo.

We ve all seen the threads here on VGC stateing that the PS2 is back! PS4 = new PS2, and its the savior of JRPGs.
So Im kinda glad its not just around here people think so.

Honestly its not yet up to the level the PS2 had, but it might end up reaching those heights.

If you follow DualShockers regularly, you probably know that we love JRPGs and Japanese games in general. While the genre may have become more niche since the glory years of the first PlayStation and of the PS2, even due to a relatively weak PS3 generation, things are looking up again.

The PlayStation 4 has quite a few JRPGs under its sleek black belt already, but the future is what really makes me smile. Below you can read a list (in no specific order) of most of the JRPGs coming to the console in the next several months. It’s by no means complete, because there are so many that some will inevitably be forgotten.

  • Final Fantasy XV
  • Final Fantasy VII Remake
  • Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness
  • Persona 5
  • Tales of Berseria
  • Valkyria Chronicles Remastered
  • Valkyria: Azure Revolution
  • Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization
  • Black Rose Valkyrie
  • God Eater 2: Rage Burst
  • God Eater Resurrection
  • Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom
  • Dragon Quest Heroes II
  • Dragon Quest XI
  • YS VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana
  • NieR: Automata
  • Nioh
  • Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force
  • Kingdom Hearts III
  • Summon Night 6: Lost Borders
  • World of Final Fantasy
  • I Am Setsuna
  • Atelier Sophie: Alchemist of the Mysterious Book
  • Odin Sphere Leifthrasir
  • Toukiden 2
  • God Wars: Toki wo Koete

Best jrpg of this gen (Xeno X) already on Wii U, so this list is irrelevant.

It's dismissive comments like this one that give certain fans a bad name.

And that's why ps4 is the best!

I'm sorry but that wasn't even the best jrpg of December 2015 let alone the generation *shrug*

I enjoyed XCX... but yeah, its probably not even going to be top10 of the gen by the end of it.

Imo the first Xenoblade is the better of the two.
