I have been keeping my eye on the Smash scene ever since the final characters have been released, and it seems that Bayo is pretty much head and shoulders above everyone else as far as risk/reward ratio in Smash. She is able to take stocks with incredibly little damage dealt to other players, and her combos are insane. People are now going to tournaments who would normally be eliminated fairly quickly, are now ranking top 16 or on the rare occassion top 8. She has also been banned from tournament play in certain countries such as Russia. So what do you think? Should they ban her or should people just git gud?

Tagging this thread for now, this is a topic in the Smash community that is annoying the hell out of me, and I wanna really get out my in-depth thoughts.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

If she starts winning majors consistently, I would consider banning her. But right now a Mewtwo won a major, so I dont see why she should be banned...

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

If she's in she's in. No excuses because everybody has equal opportunity to use her/study her.

Nope. It's fair for everybody as anyone can pick her. With that said, maybe they could nerf her a bit if it's a big issue.

Considering Meta Knight wasn't banned aside from some tournaments in Brawl, I don't see why Bayonetta should be.

Ok, I get it, people hate how Bayo compared to other former top tiers like Sheik and ZSS were a lot harder to use and master compared to Bayonetta. Sheik is pretty much a low risk, low reward character, while Bayonetta is pretty much low risk, high reward, thanks to Witch Time.

I don't think banning her in certain communities like Spanish and Russian Smash communities is gonna help players in those regions at all, and will only spoil them.

Even if Bayonetta has all these advantages, people just need to get used to the matchups, and if these players get used to a meta where Bayonetta doesn't exist at all, it's only gonna worsen their playing when someone from over there tries entering a major such as EVO, which will most likely allow Bayonetta.

Bayonetta probably does need a nerf, and I think some changes they could do include nerfing Witch Time again, and reworking some of her moves, like After Burner Kick and Witch Twist.

If she's beyond broken (which she is) she should be banned and Nintendo should be pressured into a balance patch. What's the point of making 50+ characters when everyone defaults to the one who will automatically win

I think in a game like this where characters are balanced for 4v4 with items on and dynamic, potentially hazardous, stages rather than 1v1 with no items and safe stages, concessions have to be made to accommodate the custom rules the smash community have made for their scene.

Fact of the matter is, in a game where the only reason why a character like Bayonetta exists is because she's made to be fun rather than fair under very specific and self-imposed conditions, she's just broken when it comes to competitive smash atm. And any attempts to defend that fall flat, because she's not supposed to be fair under those conditions.

If you want to play smash "seriously," seriously ban a character who was very evidently not made your scene, the same way you already ban items and stages not made for your scene. You make the rules here, not Sakurai.

Those smash players have obviously never used Super 2 Turbo Akuma, or fought this guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCicpdHQLe0
