Forums - Movies & TV - How do you think Ratchet and Clank (film) will perform at the box office?

I'm no analyst and I don't know the film's budget. I think much of R&C's audience will just wait for Captain America the following week. I predict a modest $25M opening week with the film going downhill from there.

I think that $25 mil opening week might even be a little high. Expectations are pretty low honestly, but given that the budget for the game AND movie was $40mil, they don't need much to turn a profit. I'm sure the games sales will cover the costs regardless at this point. I'd almost wager that this will be the best selling R&C to date by the end of the gen (dem legs tho)

Not enough marketing to what?

To anything. Nobody knows it exists. If you weren't a gamer, you wouldn't know either. In fact, a lot of gamers don't even know about the game coming out. That's not conducive to performing well at the box office. It will likely be an awesome movie, but it will definitely not perform well, at least not initially. The only chance it has is that the movie gets good word of mouth after the first wave of people see it, and Sony capitalizes on that.

Capitalizes on it with marketing. Which probably won't happen.

I don't know why everyone is saying their hasn't been any marketing for this movie...there was a trailer for it before Zootopia when I went to see it and I saw an ad for it on TV like two days ago...

It won't be a big hit I don't think, but there has been some marketing for it.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

I saw it on Facebook.  That's the only reason I made this thread! Haven't seen it any place else.

My sis used to play the fuck out of this series on PS2. She isn't even remotely interested in the movie. Of course, she's a 24 year old nurse, now.

Big ad buys on the big three kids networks. None of us are the target audience here.

It'll do pretty well. The Ratchet fans alone will see it and bring their friends to break it even ($20m budget). Kids are the cherry on top here.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

I think it will bomb hard. I literally only know about it through this forum and I'm a movie buff.

lol, I didn't think about this.

I would love for it to succeed. I guess they're smart enough to not waste their budget on the general masses when its unlikely to ever be a massive hit  like a Pixar/Dreamworks film.

If you lean towards YouTube content where the primary audience is 8-12 you'll also see Ratchet ads all over the place, I've noticed. (usually) kid friendly YouTube channels like The Completionist get a lot of Ratchet ad buys.

They're apparently doing a really good job of marketing for once, just not to the audience that posts on forums and arbitrarily predicts performances.

Not as well as the game seems to be doing.
I still think it ll net them a good chunk of profit though.

I'll go very positive and predict 150 million worldwide lifetime. Good word of mouth from fellow R&C and good reviews could help it achieve this. I'm not saying it's likely, but I do think it's possible, especially with kids randomly watching the movie with no idea of the games too.
