Forums - Gaming Discussion - Have you ever been addicted to a game you didn't expect to enjoy so much?

So about a month ago I picked up Forza Horizon 2. It's my first racing game purchase not named mario kart in many years, the last one was probably need for speed hot pursuit. Needless to say I'm not a huge racing fan, I just wanted something new and thought it looked fun.

Fast forward to now and it's already my third most played Xbox One game with no signs of slowing down. I never expected I would end up playing this much when I bought it.

My question to you is which games have you played in genres you dont usually enjoy that got you hooked?

I thought i would dislike the Hyperdimension Neptunia series and i ended up really enjoying Rebirth 1.
Same could be said about the Persona series, yet 3 is now one of my favorite games of all time.

I Love Playstation, but my uncle works at Nintendo.

Final Fantasy XIII, probably. I kept hearing how bad and terrible and disastrous to the Final Fantasy brand name it was. Ninety hours later with it, I couldn't help but disagree with such claims.

As for a game on a genre I don't really enjoy much that I've come to love, Castlevania: Lords of Shadows. I've never been a fan of hack n' slash games, but that one is certainly a very good one!

COD Modern Warfare 2. I am a big time RPG fan. But this is probably the game I have spent the most our on and got me to be a shooter fan too

Forgot to add Fire Emblem Awakening since i hate SRPGs, but somehow i came to like that game.

Splatoon.

Even after the demo, it was a game I expected to play for a bit then just drop, but I ended up investing a hood 200 hours into the game.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I don't like fps games, but i enjoyed Farcry 3 very much. I'm also not a huge fan of stealth games, i tried Assassin's Creed in 2008 for the first time, but i gave up fast because it was too repetitive for my taste, then in 2009 i tried again, ended the game and i still was not impressed, 1 day after that.... i tried Assassin's Creed 2... and... magic happened. I was hooked from beginning, Ezio is a very charismatic character, the story and gameplay was amazing, i beated the game in 2 days.

I bought Magna Carta 2 right before Mass Effect 2 came out. I couldn't stop playing MC2 so Mass Effect just sat there gathering dust. It was crazy but I was hooked. The ONLY reason I bought Magna Carta was because of the box art. Didn't expect to like it.

And yes, Forza Horizon 2 was created by God, himself. Have no idea how it's so good.

Minecraft comes to mind, though I'm not much of a fan anymore.
