I knew Splatoon was ahead of Mario Kart 8, but I didn't know that Super Mario Maker was ahead as well.

Splatoon and SMM are the one-two punch the Wii U needed from launch, and are basically perceived as the two must-have games in Japan for the system. Pokken is also doing nicely at the moment but we'll see how long its legs last (I don't expect it to be anywhere near as good as the 3 games in the OP, but it can do good enough for itself).

That one makes total sense. Why buy Smash U when you already have a 3DS and it comes out earlier? Only the core Smash crowd needs the Wii U version, and that crowd isn't nearly as big as the impulse buy party Smash crowd. Splatoon was the big one that pushed Wii U as a necessary console to Japan, so it makes sense that that has more mass appeal

You should make this thread again in two weeks - Splatoon and MK8 do not have all their holiday numbers. That is why SMM has the S-shaped curve, Splatoon and MK8 launched in late May - 30 weeks before the holidays.
