Only RTS games I like are Civ games and Halo Wars.

Civilization games aren't real time though.

OT : I love turn based strategy and city building games, but I didn't play any before 2005. It's kind of weird these games aren't as popular as they used to be, especially as they are traditionnally PC games and the PC gaming has gotten huge over the past few years.

I briefly played Populous back in the 80s, but I was pretty young and my computer wasn't nearly powerful enough. The original Warcraft and Settlers (called Serf City) were what got me started. I kind of went in the RTS direction, though. WC2, WC3, SC, Age of..., Kingdom Under Fire, etc. But Heroes of Might and Magic did pull me into the turn based strategy direction. I still love those games and consider them classics.

I do have Endless Legend and I should really just devote a weekend to it and learn how to play it.

Don't over think it, You'll learn how to play it after one game which could just be a few short hours depending on settings. Mastering it? Haven't managed that yet. Oh and have you tried Xcom EU, it seems like the direction your tastes are going. Also, Company of heroes?

I have XCOM EU in my steam library.  I just haven't had time to play it.  Damn games backlog. My brother keeps telling me to get off my ass and play it too. I'll make it a priority.

I used to play a lot of starcraft/brood war and a decent amount of age of empires and command and conquer. None lately though since I haven't had a computer since moving out of home 6 years ago.

I do have Starcraft 64 which is fine but it gets really hard on later levels with a joystick.

Still play RTS titles to this day, only difference is that I'm finding myself with less new RTS titles to play thanks to the genre being pretty lackluster and dormant. There are plenty of 4x and turn based strategy games today but less C&C/AoE/Supreme Comm style RTS games, I still play C&C Red Alert 3 now and then and of course some Starcraft 2, Supreme Comm FA and Planetary Annihilation, I just feel as if the genre could do with more mix and match like the old C&C days than RTS titles only about aliens or fantasy. That said I am looking into Battlefleet Gothic: Armada to see how it turns out.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

You should definitely find time to play it because it's a very good game.

Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterimate. or 4X games.

Ah ok, thanks for that.

I also do play Starcraft 2 but the current state of the new expansion has made the game less fun.

Pff... TBS, 4X, RTS, city building sims, managerial/economic sims... many people still play them on PC.

Even more people play cRPGs. Everybody plays these kind of games these days, probably more than in the 90s.

The real question is: Who except me plays adventure games which were not created or remastered by Tim Schafer?

how many people here played Transport Tycoon Deluxe ?

I love this music btw:

This was my favorite sim game back then, that and theme hospital.

This was miles and miles better than Sim City... however I just couldnt get into the games that released after it.
