Forums - General Discussion - How to solve the Smoking problem??.

Let people smoke, they will have to deal with the consequences later. Just encourage youth not to, and that's it.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Well just educate people about what can happen if you smoke. People can decide after that if they feel like the positives outweigh the negatives when or if they smoke.

-Ban cigarettes
-Put people who smoke in prison
-Death penalty for illegal smoke trade

So basically give all smokers the Eric Garner treatment then?  lol.

OT, I think the best way to convince people to quit smoking (since health reasons apparently aren't enough) is to spell out for them how much they actually spend a year on smokes.

For example, let's say that someone smokes an average of a pack per day, and the average price per pack is $8.  $8 X 365 days = $2,920 annually.  So the average smoker spends nearly 3 grand a year on smokes... think of all the other things you can do with that extra money in your pocket instead of spending it on stuff to slowly kill yourself.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Teach people in school about it. Old people are a lost cause already

Education is really the best method of prevention, and it's actually been working, other than a brief period in '07-'10, smoking rates have been on the decline since 1965.

Why do they have to be stopped? As long as they aren't hurting others (which they won't be with smoking now banned in public buildings and what not) then I don't see why it's a problem.

Yeah as an asthmatic people walking around the town centers smoking is still a problem.

Where I live, smoking isn't a huge problem for others but it's still noticeable. Also, some countries have public healthcare systems funded by taxes, which means it will be the taxpayers that pay for the treatment of smokers if and when they get sick from it. And some are going to die anyway, which again costs money, because they won't be paying taxes anymore. Of course from an economical point of view it would be good if smokers died shortly after retirement, I guess.

tl;dr: It's expensive and not just for the smokers.

If you want to stop smoking that badly then you would honestly need to stop everything else that causes equal if not more harm to people. The amount of times I see people bringing up the effects of smoking and I'll simply point you to people who drink themselves to death, accidentally kill themselves or others while under the influence of alcohol, booze has more hazardous effect on people than smoking which can result in both long and short term damage and effects to the person and those around them, with smoking you just get the long term effects. No one will ever ban drinking though because plenty love the taste and social interaction it can bring, just like with smoking, I enjoyed the taste of a hand rolled cigarette while conversing with other smokers in a designated smoking area.

Ok so for some odd reason this just came into my head and i decided to post it lol xD.

How would a country stop the smoking problem without making a problem for people who already smoke?.

Ok they cant out right ban smoking since that would be a big problem for the millions who already do smoke and enjoy to smoke.

So its about Stopping people from starting in the first place.

Imo having pictures on boxes and adding higher taxes doesnt help with this its just an excuse to put more money in the fag companys pockets.

Imo if they really did want to stop new smokers they would make it where they cant buy them in the first place.

If you already a smoker you go to your doc or some other place and get a card, you then use this card to buy smokes.

But then im not even sure if something like this would work, since people would still prop get smokes illegal anyways on the black market. But id imagine it would help more then a few pictures on the boxes, so what do you guys think?.

What would be the best way to stop new smokers without effecting the ones who already smoke??.

so the companies can keep those raised taxes? Kinda doubt it.

Also what harm do the pictures on the boxes do? They surely don't increase sales, can be printed on the box without much effort (basically cost neutral) and if only a few people stop smoking because of that it's already worth it.
