I completely agree, and share, all you said. But I was thinking about the "supplemental computing device" patent that we saw late last year (see here).
If Nintendo actually launches an upgradeable console, the easiest way to do it is with a supplemental graphics card on its own external enclosure and connected to the console through a high bandwidth connector like Thunderbolt or maybe USB-Type C.
The problem with that approach is that the original console needs to have a beefier than usual CPU to not become a bottleneck once the new card is connected, and since the NX processor seems to be weak, I don't think Nintendo will be able to use that patent.
Of course, Nintendo could add another CPU in that "supplemental computing device" or even put a full NX system in that box to theoretically double the performance and resources (like RAM and storage), but if they have to do all that, it should probably better to launch a completely new console.
