Forums - Nintendo Discussion - NeoGAF verfied user: NX CPU is noticeably better then PS4 and Xbox One CPU

So this is the big news? A console launching 3 years after another set of consoles will "have noticeably better cpu performance" I would hope so.

This whole thing just reminds me of the dreamcast. Launching against the peak year of the current gen.

The dreamcast was superior to the N64 and PS1 by a long shot. But what killed it was the fact the older consoles were getting the games that had been years in the making while the DC was offering launch qualities.

psn- tokila

add me, the more the merrier.

Neogaf verified doers not mean anything, it only verifies that the person is a student or has a job with an e-mail account.

This rumour about NX CPU is pretty reliable, same guy before gave true informations about GC, Wii and Wii U CPUs.

Yes its a big news, Wii CPU is basically GC CPU and incompressible weaker than PS3/Xbox360 CPUs, Wii U CPU is slower than 6/7 years old CPUs in Xbox360/PS3, so having CPU that is stronger around 30% than those in 3 years old PS4/XB1 consoles is quite progres for Nintendo. :)

What exactly killed Dreamcast is Sega bad financial decisions, Dreamcast wasnt selling that bad but Sega didnt had any money to support it any more, they basically left without money. Sega was basically financially forced to discontinued Dreamcast just 2 year after launch.

Hope this rumor be true, because most modern games now aday require an aleast decent cpu

I wonder if Nintendo will release info about the system at their annual investors meeting.

Its nintendo.

The Wii U was the power of the PS3 & XB360.

The NX will be the power of the PS4 & XB1.

They are just a gen behinde in terms of performance.... its their thing.

It wont matter until the Playstation 5 & Xbox Two launch.

It will matter from day 1. No one gets excited for a system that's basically the same thing as something else that launched 3-4 years earlier?

Would you be excited about the smartphone that's as powerful as iPhone 5? Yeah it can run the same apps, but so what?

This strategy only works if you have a groundbreaking, earth shattering, stop everything you have to try this type of other aspect to their hardware like the Wiimote was to the year 2006.

PS4/XB1 is crap hardware by today's standards, even Sony is apparently making something double the PS4 for $400 in PS4K, you will have tablets as powerful as the XB1 at least quite soon.

You'd have to be absolutely out of your mind to believe that the PS4K is going to be twice the power of the PS4 for only $400. And you have to be seriously living under a rock if you genuinely think the NX is going to be the same thing as the PS4/XBO. Right. Nintendo plans to "redefine what it means to be a video game platform" by making a redundant piece of hardware.

Fake. Pretty sure it was already stated before that Nintendo wasn't looking to beat XB1 or PS4, only get within port-throwing distance.

That wasn't stated at all ever buy anybody with credibility.

Speaking of the PS4K, if I were a PS4 owner right now,  I think I'd be really upset.  They buy a console with no real worthwhile exculsives other than Bloodborne on the promise that great exclusive games are going to come in the future and now that the time is near, Sony unveils a new PS4 that makes the one they already own look like a piece of shit.  The big spit in the face to me is that early adopters don't even have the comfort of knowing that they were able to play great games earlier than those that waited because a significant number of the notable games that came out for the first two years of the PS4's lifespan were cross-generational or remasters.  Aside from getting to play Bloodborne a year early, I don't think there were many positives in being an early PS4 adopter.  I'd imagine the anger I'd feel would be like how some Wii U owners felt when they started to realize that Zelda U was going to be cross-generational  -- except significantly worse.

At least Nintendo had the decency to release the n3DS when the 3DS already had years of great exclusive games.

Wow... just... wow.

First you shit on all the great PS4 exclusives that aren't Bloodborne. Yeah, there's more than just that one game despite what you may believe. Then you bitch at Sony for unveiling something... that they haven't actually unveiled and may not even exist?

I mean, let's be real, definitely exists. Even then, this is only going to be a Sony thing. Microsoft stuff we going to do it, and more relevantly, if anybody thinks the NX isn't going to be doing this  with even more frequency than the PS4.5,  they are in for a rude awakening. I said it before the PS4.5 rumors even started: expect to be NX2 by holiday 2018. And the NX3 by 2020.

Not saying it's groundbreaking news, but many weren't considering that Nintendo would do anything above the XbOne, let alone both console. So to say it's the same situation as the DreamCast is a bit sensational don't you think? For one what killed the DreamCast on all fronts is Sega had absolutely no money left and launched the system after several unsuccessful products back to back.

Technology is hitting a wall and if Nintendo can actually provide a decent console with no bottlenecks and can actually push some amazing visuals for an acceptable price. Both Sony and Microsoft would have to make a very expensive console to provide anything vastly more advanced anytime soon! Many think and believe that the PS5 will be 8-10x the power of PS4, which would not only hinge on 14nm finfet process(or much smaller)being extremely mature and affordable in 3-4yrs.

To provide a 12-16Tflop solution in such a small enclosure as consoles provide, is just not going to happen in this go around of manufacturing process reduction. Finfet has already been delayed so long, so whatever is next surely won't get off the ground when they are expecting it to. These next console updates are going to look smaller and smaller as to what they provide in sheer muscle to the buying consumer. Just as these new cell phones are starting to look less appealing to update each year, they are going to need more than just better hardware to sell the public on these devices going forward.

You forget that Wii U also had 4x more RAM.

At end Wii U has much better stronger GPU with twice amount of RAM than PS3/Xbox 360 but somehow slower CPU and RAM, so  Wii U have similar power like PS3/Xbox 360 and even slightly above.

You have to factor in with the wii u that it has more memory but its lower memory bandwidth so to fill that 2GB of memory takes much, much longer than 512MB on 360 or the two 256MB banks on ps3 are quicker again. However both 360 and wii u have additional very fast memory, 10MB on 360 and 32MB on wii u. No hard drive as standard on wii u either and if you connect one externally its bottlenecked by a slow usb2.0 interface.

Also its pretty much confirmed that the wii u main gpu is 176gflops not 352gflops plus it has the additional wii gpu which may operate in a turbo mode as the  gamepad's graphic engine. Still admittedly the wii u's gpu is still more powerful than 360 and ps3 due to its later architecture. It just does many things much more efficiently and relies less on other resources like the cpu's.

The wii u is a seriously weak console which doesn't quite manage to match 360 and ps3 for  most games.

However I'm really hopeful Nintendo will make the NX far more competitive. I think they realise now the game is up, shit hardware at inflated prices just won't cut it and I think they'll bring something to market with very decent cpu performance for a console and competitive gpu performance plus perhaps a few new innovations.

I'm not expecting great third party support I'm just hopeing for amazing Nintendo first party games using this much more capable hardware.

I really hope they get it right this time as anything less may mean an exit from home console hardware. Luckily AMD are doing some amazing gpu and cpu tech at the moment and the 16nm fabrication process is a possibility so a cheap powerful console with low power requirements is definitely possible. Both ps4 and xbone are very weak with regards cpu performance and

Keep your delusions and lies.

Wii U: standard 720p 60fps with much  better graphics than ps360. More ram, edram, better cpu and much better gpu.

Ps360: standard 540p 30fps.

Nintendo says a lot of things. The Wii U was going "redefine" the living room according to Nintendo.

And Sony has a fairly established history of selling fairly high end hardware at relatively affordable prices, we'll see what the 4K costs, but a lot of its performance improvement likely will come from natural evolution of GPU design, PS4's GPU is 3-4 years old, something 2x better is not going to cost 2x more.
