Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is 720p still acceptable to you?

Well, is it?

I wouldn't really go so far as to say that 720p is unacceptable in 2016 (I still play games on my PS3 and 360), but it's clear too me that there's a huge difference between 900p and 720p, let alone comparing 720p to 1080p, even looking at a small 32 inch screen at a distance of 10 feet (I can tell the difference between resolutions, with those factors in play), the difference is night and day too my eyes.
A higher native resolution is literally displaying more detail, it's like taking a sheet of film off of a window pane to see more of the world, so I don't get why you wouldn't want to see more of the world.

If given the option between 1080p, 900p or 720p I'll always pick 1080p.
I'd also rather have a more stable 30FPS, than a fluctuating target of 60FPS, but if I can have a more stable 60FPS compared to a stable 30FPS, then I'll pick the higher frame rate.

In modern times there shouldn't have to be a compromise for Visuals, Resolution, Physics, AI and Frame Rates or anything else, it should just all be possible on current generation consoles.
So 720p unacceptable? No, but I can tell the difference between it and higher resolutions easily, even on a pretty small screen by today's standards.

Considering my current favorite GOAT is Persona 4 golden I would say yeah. It's (960x544) or 544p, gameplay over graphics for life.

On my PC, no, it's not. On console it's irrelevant, because I have no control over that resolution, and people don't have enough self-control to not buy something that doesn't meet up with the standards of 10 years ago, let alone today.

As long as it looks good on my TV, it's good enough for me. My problem isn't really never consoles but trying to get the picture from older consoles to look decent, I just got some component cables for my PS2 and it made a world of difference.

I don't mind. I still play my ps3 from time to time. Now if I do have the option to play the game in higher resolution like for example, a game releasing on both, ps3 and ps4, I will always go for the one that have higher resolution.

Just because other people don't have the same standard for resolution as you does not mean they lack self control. Jesus christ what kind of logic is that even?

Its not an issue for me dueto being a gamer of old and new games. But i would be dissapointed if a ps4 game cant go above 720p and neither has 60fps or the graphical quality to back it up.

The kind of logic that has seen industry standards stagnate or regress in 10 years.

I agree. That type of logic (ie that everyone should have the same opinions as you) is only detrimental to the industry. Since you apparently agree, I can only wonder why you use that sort of logic, but to each their own.

It's ridiculous to say that it's not acceptable.

Battlefront on X1 looks far better than most 1080p games for example.
