Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo releasing mobile app Good idea or a sign of weakness?

Miitomo is a pretty neat app, but I like the rewards feature that goes along with it more honestly. Every day I get a few My Nintendo points, and I've already used those points to get myself Zelda Picross, a 3DS game.

If the app stood on its own, I'm sure I'd be bored by now, and would probably be more concerned. Using a free app to get discounts on console games though? If that's the overall aim, then I welcome more apps like this.

That's basically me. And it will only get much more awesome with more rewards coming.

I like the connection between the apps and to Nintendo's consoles and games.

Hopefully Pokemon Go will also adapt this.

weakness i would say.

It's a good idea, it would help them to expand the console user base. I can see Miitomo succeeding and having widespread appeal. The idea is neat, and it could be really hilarious at times. It depends on how Nintendo will handle it. If not, well, we have a free app which allow us to get free points to get discounts. I don't think in any case this could be seen as bad.

I think it's a good idea. They need more exposure so that they can be successful with the NX.

Pretty much the same thing with me.

It was more of a sign of weakness cutting themselves off of the exposure and money cell phones had to offer due to being stubborn.

I kind of agree that they were stubborn on the mobile front for a while -but part of me wants to believe they just didn't want to put their Ips on the mobile App Store and this type of advertising based app should of been part of their strategy from the get go

good idea. now, they just need to put their old VC games on Steam. They would make a lot of money, if properly price, IMO.

Hi

It's a good idea. It makes money and won't affect negatively their main business. Kimishima already said their focus will always be their hardware/software combo, and things like amiibo, theme parks and mobile apps/mini-games are just a part of IP popularization.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

It's a meme machine, that can only help Nintendo.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

It's fine for now. This is the type of game that simply wouldn't work on any other platform, and it's not going to compete with what they have on other platforms. If they keep this going, it'll be fine.
