I find it strange to include a portable system with the home systems in the list... however, it shuts off any argument saying that Nintendo is about to go out of business!

They even manage to lump in a Wii U exclusive! something Sony has not been able to do with the PS4 so far (obviously Ms has not been able either, but this is just the air of times).

Gotta say that doesn't really inspire confidence

Elder Scrolls and GTAVI would still be games that are all too regularly on these lists. Watch Dogs 2 I suppose would at least be new (even though it doesn't really feel like a new IP anymore). But yeah, would love to see more brand new IP in the list. Or even just games from franchises that have never been all that successful before suddenly becoming a massive hit would be pretty cool.

I get what you mean. Well let's try some more. If the NX proves successful a Splatoon sequel might make it. The Last Guardian might. It's unfortunately rather difficult to predict when a new IP will soar or bomb, and they have to REALLY soar to be on this list. For Honor could have an explosive launch. Ummmm, yea, I can't what else might make it for new franchises.

Will be interesting when PS4 and XB1 hits its 4th or 5th year (like 3ds, Vita, Wii U). PS3 and 360 will be dead by then, GTA VI will be released and other gen defining games will come out hopefully.

Fallout 4 could probably be considered a precursor towards that.

A seperate portable list would have been pointless, as it would have just been a top 10 list for 3DS, however, the idea of a home console only list does pique my interest. Added.

I think it could have.  The launch lineup was still serviceable.  And they had numerous chances.  2013's holiday they had Super Mario 3D World but they didn't bundle it and their advertising was repulsively bad.  After E3 2014, there was a ton of positivity surrounding the Wii U, all Nintendo had to do was strike while the iron was hot.  People were paying attention but they still didn't go as hard as they should have.  2014 was really their bigger chance:  MS and Sony had no exclusive heavy hitters coming, the Big Three of the year (Destiny, Watch Dogs, and Titanfall) didn't go over nearly was well as many hoped.  If they had bundles Smash, marketed the system itself hard, and had some great deals they would have had a real chance success.  But they didn't bundle ANY of their games from 2014 after MK8.  And there were no ads for the system showing off the backlog at any point in 2014.  And don't get me started on their absurd stubbornness about sticking to that $299 price.  It should have been $250 for Holiday 2014 and dropped to that price permanently when Splatoon launched.  Their marketing screwups are numerous and systematically undercut all their marketing successes.  No hardware improvements can save a poorly marketed product.

But I do feel a LOT (as in nearly all) the Wii U's problems stem from a rush to market in order to get the drop on Sony and MS.  I mean the gamepad is one of my favorite controllers but it SCREAMS early design.  With a year of time it could have been streamlined into a much better looking and more comfortable form that would have gone over so much better and freed up some cost to be allocated to hardware specs.  Also, losing F-Zero for the launch was a huge blow; it would have provided a much needed showpiece.  As it stands, the Wii U didn't have a true showpiece until Mario Kart 8.

I do remember questioning not making super tanky bundles with Smash. And the $299 price point compared to $349 for PS4 was doing no favors. Here's hoping they've learned something from all of this for the NX.

There is already a thread with the best selling home console games.

Why make separate lists, when 3DS, PS4, Xone, Vita and Wii U are all video game consoles that belongs to the 8th generation? This thing is beyond me

Great job. Nice to see that you included ALL consoles games of the current generation in those charts and not only home consoles

I did not know that, but I was still curious. Oh well.

Hey, no worries. Now that i see, the way that you did it isn't like the other thread.

What bugs me is that is hard to find the top selling games from ALL the consoles in a generation. You can see on previous gens that they always make separate lists with home consoles, handhelds or whatever the fuck they can invent, but never a single list including ALL games that released in the gen. Nothing against your thread, your thread is great, bc finally include everyone

Yea, a lot of people seem to forgot that handheld consoles are, in fact, video game consoles. Video game consoles that usually gets some of the best selling games in any given year.
