The avg casual cares for games like Call of Duty... and sports games like Fifa,...
and stuff like MLB The Show 16 (which is a exclusive).

MLB the show has been selling like hot cakes, and when a exlusive does that, it pushes hardware.
Atleast it looks like it has judgeing from this thread.

MLB is very big in ameria, i think. The graphic is so amazing. But i'm no sport fan ^^

Why would sales increase by such a large margin because of a product that's launching months away from now? I'm sure existing PS4 owners are excited for this, but we already knew it was launching this year.

PSVue just launched nationwide.  That alone is bound to have a tangible impact on sales moving forward, as many Americans look to dump their cable bill while picking up a Blu-Ray player in the process.

The recent news and open pre-orders with PSVR definitely compelled and will continue compelling people toward Playstation. More particularily, people that were on the fence and waiting on a price confirmation from Sony.

And lastly, it is possible that potential xbox sales are now being funneled over to playstation due to recent anouncements regarding the future of xbox.

The baseline of PS4 should be substantial moving forward. I'm not saying VGC figures are right, but they could absolutely be in the ball park.  We're approaching untested territory here, so it'll be exciting so see how different strategies pay out.

Funny you mention this. Here's a recent Amazon PS4 review-

"After the release of PS Vue in our area, the Playstation 4 is now the center of our home entertainment system. It's like PS4 has everything we need for total entertainment. Before, I only had 1 PS4 console in the living room, but when PS Vue was available, I tried it, the streaming quality is superb, and after the trial period, I decided that I could unsubscribe from my Cable TV company and go online streaming all the way. Now, I'm going to buy another PS4 unit for the bedroom. With the amount of money I saved after cutting the cord with the Cable TV, I am now able to subscribe to PS Plus as well which has more perks for the gamers - discounted games, early beta access, etc. Right now, I couldn't think of anymore to ask for...but hey, Sony likes coming up with exciting new stuff, so I'll just have to wait for it. So, will I recommend this product? Hell yeah! Go buy 2 consoles at least, subscribe to PS Plus and PS Vue, and your entertainment system is all set!"

PS Vue, is the program that let you Sign each TV Channel Separately ?,  this is something that should be Standart for the TV Companies, when i still watched TV, was only 3-4 Channels, would be a lot more cheaper if the Subscription was Individually.

Yes. Forum posters are overlooking what Vue and other services really mean for Sony, and how this will be the first realization of a true convergence smart box that does it all - movies, tv, music, games wrapped under a United storefront. The hardcore techies will have VR to play with. Sony has worked on a beautiful strategy that's been executed flawlessly up to this point. The fact that they were supposed to go bankrupt 5 years ago is very sensational and it makes me happy to see their late successes, because I feel like they are giving me what I want without the headache or bullshit. I appreciate it and want to encourage this kind of behavior from a company.

Yeah. It's a la carte that cable providers fear.

Smartphones may have "stolen" a part of casuals but they could explain a progressive drop, while Ninty portables suffered a very sudden and heavy drop at the end of DS/DSi life, before 3DS even launched, and 3DS, outside of its highest peaks, couldn't repeat on average its "dad"'s success. Something went wrong in the transition, and not only the bad 3DS launch, that Ninty was actually able to fix quite quickly (and "killing" the equally eccessively expensive PSV in the cradle with that huge early 3DS price drop), also before it, mobiles alone cannot be the sole cause. XBOne does decently as a second ranking home console, Wii U is now doing decently as a niche one, like PSV is a decent niche portable (but it's just niche instead of a true competitor due to Sony's huge mistakes with it), but 3DS is doing quite disappointingly as a market leader. IMVHO opinion, Ninty's mistake was the same with Wii U and 3DS, killing their predecessors too early before the new launches, tarnishing two brands that it had instead to keep alive and kicking until the end, as it wanted to use them in their successors.

2 Different markets, being the Market Leader, and selling something are 2 Different things, 60 Millions is a good number for a Handheld, and selling over 100 Thousands a week, also is a good number, Xbox One, is the second console in a much more Main Stream Market, 3DS, is doing well, Xbox One, is doing a little less than the Expected, for a console that had a Price Drop, and will launch a Exclusive game  next week, Plus, had the rights of Marketing of The Division, the best selling game of March, and of the Year (until now).

I agree that with the growth of mobiles we can't ask 3DS to sell the same as DS, but DS sudden drop makes me think that managing better the transition both DS and 3DS could have sold some millions more. Same for Wii U. XBOne isn't the best selling second ranking console ever, actually it's quite far from that goal, but it's doing "decently" (surely not "excitingly") if we consider how many horrible mistakes MS committed. Just this, I have no unreasonable expectations from Ninty, but I think it could have done better, while for XBOne I think the product isn't bad, but MS can consider itself lucky for its sales, if MS paid all its mistakes they could be far worse (and I don't blame Mattrick, he just was Ballmer's puppet).

The problem is that Microsoft, jumped in a Hole, and  when they are finally coming back, they jump in the Hole Again, if all the Exclusives coming for PC, and the Rumor of Upgradable Hardware (confirmed by Phill Spencer, and Un-confirmed 3 weeks later, by Phill Spencer), the Xbox One, would be able to get Mommentum.

Pokken Tournament is quite the beast. But it's doing nothing for Wii U hardware. It's like nothing will move it out of 1st gear.

And Halo 5 limping along at ~22K suggest that disc sales are going to struggle to hit 5 million I think. If it carries on with that sort of level of sales on average for another year 5 million is achievable. But will it do ~22k per week on average for a year? I guess Holiday 2016 sales and extent of disc bundling might make a difference.

I thought smartphones would have greatly affect it by now.

Well considering its declined massively gen over gen it has been greatly effected but it ain't gonna start selling zero.  There's still a market WW.

smarthphones are boring for me ^^ Console's 4 life = )

Ratchet & Clank is coming !!

Wow! Ps4 is a beast seling 3:1 over its competitor.
