Forums - Sony Discussion - Should I get a 1080p TV or a 4K TV for gaming?

What should I do?

Buy 4k tv and get ps4k 40 26.85%

Get 1080p TV, stick with your current PS4 61 40.94%

It's too early, wait for more information. 48 32.21%

For about a month now I was planning on getting a 1080p TV. I currently own a 720p TV which I had for 5 years, and I want an upgrade. I was planning on getting a full HD 1080p Television for my PS4 so I can enjoy the beautiful graphics all the way... and I have the money so why not?.

But after these rumors about the Playstation 4.5(Or the PS4K) I been thinking ALOT if I should just skip 1080p and jump straight to 4K. But I don't know what to do. If Sony does some type of "Trade in your old PS4 and save $200!" deal I WILL get the ps4K and 4k tv. But if the PS4K costs like $500 with no trade in deal then I'll just stick with my current PS4 and get a 1080p TV.

What would you do if you were in my position?

Also btw gaming monitors are too expensive, not getting those.

I got an HDTV back in 2003 because some games at the time started running in progressive scan along with a few that even ran in HD. It was a waste. Jumping onto the bandwagon too soon is always a case of "do I really want to blow all this money on something so infantile"? It really comes down to whether you answer yes or not and if that's acceptable to you.

Personally, I'd just get a damn fine 1080P TV. Quad HD television and gaming... by the time it's mainstream, the TV you'd get today will be total ass and pal in comparison to what's available then. So, I'd say buy a kick ass contemporary TV now, and then a 4K tv in 5-7 years when it's really worth it.

I've had my 1080p Samsung for about 5 years now but 4K has really become affordable recently with many sets under $1,000.

If ps4k is real, I'll definitely get one for 4K movie playback.

I mean, if you have the money to get the better TV, get the better TV. It'll last you longer.

You would be surprised how cheap 4K TVs are now! I just checked best buy and you can get some 50 inch TVs at around $600! Of course depending on the brand and other features you get with the TV it could drive up or bring down the cost of the TV. Ultimately I would say wait a little longer to see if an official confirmation of the PS4K is happening. Then you could go from there.

That's true. My parents bought our TVs at least 6 years ago and they are in perfect working condition. If you do some research and find the best quality TVs, it could last you for a long time.

Real question is the size. If the TV is over 55 inches get the 4k. If not then get the 1080p. Its tough to notice the difference on small screens unless you are sitting really close. 1080p looks like ass on anything over 50".

I mostly play RTS and Moba style games now adays as well as ALOT of benchmarking. I do play other games however such as the witcher 3 and Crysis 3, and recently Ashes of the Singularity. I love gaming on the cutting edge and refuse to accept any compromises. Proud member of the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race. Long Live SHIO!!!!

Still sticking with CRTs.

Get a samsung JU7500 it has a marvelously low input lag for a 4k tv. Something that most 4k tv's don't have due to the lack of quick upscaling. If you go for a 1080p TV look for what is cheap and gets good reviews.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

wait for the official announce...
