I don't see why an artist should limit their truth to cater for the collective ethic at the expense of their individual freedom. They should be able to create any content they desire. I could have a few issues depending on how that content was made (i.e: making art about dead animals by killing them yourself), but other than that, I don't really have a problem.

fantasy, art, creativity are the testing grounds for humanity to explore its own limits. no censorship should ever be applied to art. if something offends person X, that's person X's problem and they should just not consume find something else to enjoy.

Art is about expressing the artists imagination to a visual means. If this happens to include things that someone might happen to find offensive? Good, then the art is doing exactly as it should, expressing opinions, forming discussion and making you think.

Hmm, pie.

many people don't understand what freedom of speech is and confuse it with freedom from consequences (something you do not have and should not have), Freedom of speech is purely about expressing your beliefs without retribution or censorship from the government, it doesn't mean you can't go to jail or wind up in serious legal trouble if what you have expressed breaches other laws like incitement to violence, child exploitation, slander etc etc . You should be free to express yourself however you want but you need to be aware that such expression can have consequences (legal and otherwise depending on what you are expressing).

People are free to express how they want to.

They really shouldn't have to worry about having to offend others if the person is just trying to get their point across.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Everything I want to discuss is in the title so please feel free to give your opinion on the matter and if you need it summed up in a binary fashion, here goes.

Do you believe an artist or creater of any type of consumer content (exluding age ristricted content) should be free to explore whatever themes or plot devices that may offend or imply offence be it taboo issues, radical political ideas, sexism. racism or whatever "Ism" it might be that one may wish to explore regardless of weather or not they hold these views in strong conscious belief outside of their art form.

Or

Are you of the view that freedom of speech extends to all artforms in whatever taboo, nasty, offensive or painful truth that it may take shape. regardless of other peoples sex, race, moral beliefs, opinions, painful histories, personal or cultural values (Again, age ristricted contend excluded.) and how this may cause conflict even if it may incite ideas that may be harmful (For example, The film The interview and how it affected Sony and stirred up some policial issues.

Basically. Can you handle the truth no matter how painful it may be (Others should too) or should everyone be held to take others views into consideration at the expense of freedom of speech?

I am writing many short stories in my free time and have recently started forming and fleshing out a bigger story from many of the themes I have explored in short form and I would really like to get a sense of the opnions here on one of the most intelligent and considerate forums that I have come across. Thank you for your input.

That hurts my feelings. Delete everything you just wrote.

And if you are in a country with different laws, for example, writing a screen play about Muhammad reincartnated as a serial rapist, drug pushiing pimp who manages to become a prophet in America and after becoming a political fingure manages to gain support for the annihilation on every muslim on the planet through a vector virus that attacks genes unique to middle eastern men causing their testicles to fall off and slowly cause an eventual sex change while eliminating the possibility of reproduction....While I'm just parodying I am pilgrim and Dan browns Inferno here, what if this became a global sucess in the film world and while not breaking any laws in say, the US it offends muslims and may quite possibly cause serious reprecussions to the political stability between the US and the middle east....well, more so than usual. Whats your stance on this ridicuous but quite real scenario?

I still don't see the problem. Look back at that movie, The Interview. It almost caused an international issue, yet it still released on theaters.

how about instead of clearly surreal fiction we discuss a real case

in 1981 the KKK's "fiery cross" magazine featured a cartoony drawing of a black man being hanged, just days later Klansmen kidnapped and killed a young black man hanging his corpse in the neighborhood afterwards

that drawing was then used as evidence the men acted on an implicit order of the KKK itself instead of entirely seperated from the organization, so the KKK had to pay enormous fines bankrupting it and making it less relevant since

what's your take on this, should the KKK have been spared from the consequences in this case as they were only printing art?

Yes, and Charlie Hebdo is still active and doing their thing. If a bunch of terrorists can't stand humor, that won't deter them to keep doing what they do.
