Forums - Sony Discussion - Evolution Studios Closed

Sounds like:

- Sony will handle DriveClub as a service
- some Evo will stay on to do that with Sony
- Some Evo staff will join PD to help work on GT Sport since Evo nailed sound, graphics and making cars.

I'm really hoping that Sony will create a pool for making cars that can be released on GT or DC. It doesn't make sense to pay someone to do the job twice when once it's enough. This might also be reason behind the closure since DC is a service. Pool together your resources under one roof.

Gift for you to localize the Sony's studios:

Alright, my mistake. Somewhat I though USA and UK are the same thing.

My point still stands - games like Wonderbook or Helldivers do not sell enough to justifice own a creator.

You have to love Sony. Getting all the love for their effort to help Lionhead developers find new homes within their studios without committing to really anything then weeks later go ahead and close one of their studios and still reap public opinion without actually doing anything different.

Man this thread is totally different then the Lionhead closure. I have to give it to Sony Marketing and communications. Those people really understand the gaming community and how to make them eat dog food all the while calling it steak.

Sure for Wonderbook but this not the same budget as for Driveclub. Driveclub ask Evolution a completly new engine to be worked from ground and there is also network problems connection at launch.

And for Helldiver the developper is not a first party, Sony publishing the game on PS4 but IP is doesn't owned by Sony.

I wouldn't put it down to Sony marketing. Lionhead was a staple MS studio. Fable was a huge franchise and when they axed Lionhead it caught everyone including the staff there off-guard.

With Evo, they seemed to have known about it and it shows Sony has offered them to relocate internally where possible and they are helping find other jobs.

Okay, I misspoke. What I meant is that they dont release that many exclusives(first partys I mean).Well, at the very least, I dont feel like they do.

While I might agree with you the first two years where a bit bar boned. Have you seen all the exclusive content for PS4 in 2016 it's a pretty huge amount of high budget parties swarmed all over the year.

Yeah, this year is ceartanly better.UC 4, Horizon,Gravity Rush 2, and I know there are a few more that I cant remember right now.I just wished they were more consistent with it

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Unlike what happened to Lionhead, this news is not surprising at all.

The UK government is a joke and has done nothing to help UK studios, they are more to blame than the ''failure'' of Driveclub.

Team ICO will likely join them next year.

I always found evolution studios to be overrated personally. But it's still very sad news both for the racing genre as another key studio in the category shutters and also to British Game Development.

Cripes it's 2 large UK studios in less than a month and both completely out of the blue.
