Digital Foundry uploaded a video showing Alan Wake on X1 BC.

 

 

Improved frame rate and no screen tear are great improvments. However, the game is apparently too dark in some scenes, he even says the game is probably best played on 360.

I've found myself raising the brightness in the options of dark games (such Gears of War). Not sure if DF attempted that, Alan Wake does have brightness settings.

 

Edit: After playing through the first episode, I can confirm simply adjusting the brightness makes the game easier to play in dark areas.

I insertered arguably because I feel the game is still better on X1 assuming you adjust the brightness. Its not a quote.

Clearly I'm not focusing on the PC version and that's common sense assuming you have a capable machine. I said better, not best.

I'm surprised I have to explain this.

What was the point of this thread again? Seems like if you wanted to talk about alan wake you would have. Also seems like if you wanted to "warn" people to increase their brightness you would have. Yet it never really came off as either. Specially not with that title.

I had no problems playing it on the 360 back in the day. Darkness is part of the game, if I have to "increase" my brightness I risk a chance of ruining that ambience they created so very well.

PC version isn't emulating the 360.

There have been numerous threads on this site discussing X1 BC, this is another one of those. I discussed brightness because it was discussed in the video.

No... you don't increase it all the way to the point it ruins the ambience.

Its actually the opposite.

I didn't want to make an objective statment when an opinion in the video said otherwise. But again, I don't think the brightness setting was taken into consideration.

Neither does Xbox One. Its just a hasty port, that's why you have to download the entire game again.

Seriously, who thought this was a good idea? Even if you over brighten the game (which is bad) the crush still happened.

Why does he feel black crush "ruins" the game? He said the game is nearly unplayable at points due to it being so dark, I completely agree.

There is a solution though, you simply raise the brightness to make the game playable. Just consider it a trade off, you lose some picture playing on X1 but gain in FPS and v-sync. Personally I'm not a big fan of screen tear, especially how constant it's on 360.

How did you come to this conclusion?

You download every game you play on X1 BC, regardless if you have the disc.

You even download the add ons separately, Its not a port.
