No, the Manga is the same. I absolutely love the Chimera Ant Arc as well, just a masterpiece in every regard really. Gon's development and Meruem's character were amazing. The side characters were huge as well in their development and the way the world paralleled ours was something special. Honestly can't say anything bad about the arc personally and I never saw the anime version (just the fights, oh and a few random epidoses).

It's definitely the best arc, but Gon having to turn into an adult was really not that good, imo, the sense of despair the whole arc was bringing up and specially the huge scalating after Meruem shows how damn strong he is, it was just lame that it had to resort to some completely out of the blue power to turn into an adult to have enough power, pretty much like just happened with Hitsugaya on Bleach (or even Ichigo to fight AIzen).
It's just cheap, they build up a tense moment that seems to have no way out for said character to overcome, then it simply pulls this out of the blue to instantly overcome what was impossible... it's very different to having a hidden power or a new move to display, they just age instantly and now have enough power to fight back, not even something within them to awaken like a transformation, something from the future being used now.

Anyway, that arc is really, really good, I loved almost every single bit of it just as well, until Gon grown up... (but even so it's very good in general).

It's still pretty cool though and it does make sense in a way. Gon is an enhancer after all, he enhanced himself by giving up all his strength and future potential just for that one moment. Shonen manga usually do these type of things and it doesn't really bother me much. The other ones you mention also make sense in bleach as well. Is it cheap? Maybe so, but I don't personally think it's a big deal.

The text was obscured intentionally...so it could be a double digit number. Considering how this 'final' arc has been going on for like four years now, I wouldn't be surprised if Kubo stretches this out another year.

I'm pretty sure he already said this was Bleach last year.
Also, the title is already "the end", it's starting to get numbers after it likes lots of other titles on Bleach, but I'm pretty sure it won't stretch much, it'll probably have one or two more chapters after that, as I suppose 'the end' means the end of the fight, so it'll have those bit more usual chapter(s) to give everything an end, so Ichigo can marry Inoue and show their kids, this kind of stuff XP

Watch it be "The End...or is it? 1,2,3,etc" Classic Kubo :P Wouldn't put it pass him.

Well first appearance is a big one. The color,  and the tail.

Then absorbing things through the tail. The reaching a final form through absorbing things.  Hero sacrifice is nothing new (it is all over DBZ). The way they did it was very similar to DBZ. The most powerful hero sacrifices himself killing the bad guy - only for the bad guy to reform himself.

There may be other points that I can't recall.

Even ignoring "that" part of the story - I didn't really care for the lead up to it.  The whole thing just felt slow.

Compared to the beginning of the series - I think I may have been too hard on the ending? That first "Arc" was some of the best writing I've seen.

When did Cell reform? I wouldn't call myself a Dragonball expert by any means, but I'm pretty sure he ended up in Hell with Freeza, and was the exact same character there. He certainly didn't seem any more human by the end.

Mereum's design was certainly a nod to Dragonball, but that doesn't speak entirely to the story progression. Even the methods of the sacrifice were different. I mean...they explode (albeit different sides), but that's another very general comparison. It still seems like a huge stretch to me. I could probably find more comparisons between Jojo Arc 4 and the Cell saga...but that wouldn't mean much.

Now the pacing is a criticism I can understand, and one I've definitely heard before. I honestly thought it was great build-up, and nailed the overall sense of desperation in that arc, but that's definitely subjective.

I loved every HxH arc except Greed Island, which was okay, just felt more like a traditional shounen arc rather than what came before and after. The Hunter Exam arc was a great contrast to the darker themes that come later.

I actually thought Gon's sacrifice was one of the best moments of the arc for the tone alone. Even though the hero was getting a power-up, it was clear that it was a tragic turn of events. If anyone cheered for Gon's victory there...I think they really missed the point. The look on Gon's face as he was crushing Pitou's skull was absolutely heart-breaking...it really felt like he gave up everything for his revenge.

If anything, I would hate if this becomes a regular power up similar to Chopper's Monster point...but I have faith that Togashi won't cheapen Gon's sacrifice.

Heh...I like Orihime more than Rukia...but I'd be very surprised if Kubo went that route. I think it's more likely that Ichigo will either get with or be implied to be with Rukia..or be forever alone as the Soul King somehow. Or become Brook.

I certainly wouldn't mind being wrong though.

Apparently ReLife is getting an anime adaption. So I am going to try that and see if it motivates me into reading the Manga version.

And to be fair the Chimera Ant arc was absolutely painful - no matter what.

Yes, I remember that! And I think the anime in its entirety  released today already? That's what I heard from a cat...

But I really want to watch it if I can!!! x )

Does it bother anyone else when a manga you're reading finally gets a full color panel and their hair color is way different than you've been imagining?

I think at times it bothered me when in the manga, characters don't have shades or anything on their hair, so I imagine they have a light color, but then in the color page, they have brown hair. Why don't they color in that character's hair with a gray, instead of giving the impression they are blonde or something?

Yes, exactly. I imagined her and her father blonde, and I forgot she had brown hair. What the heck.

I mean, all the tension he build on that arc was just washed away with that event, it really left a bitter taste on my mouth.

I guess our opinions differ here :P I kinda thought that the tension was all leading up to Gon doing something unthinkable and that's what he did. All that rage he's shown throughout the series indicates how powerful he can become thanks to it.  All that hidden potential the Chairman saw in him led up to that very moment.

Lol yes!!! Sometimes it fits sometimes it doesn't. Like I usually get an impression of White/unshaded hair = Some shade of Blonde.
