Has anyone here read Assassination Classroom? It sounds weird and interesting, and has popped up on my recommendations list on Amazon after buying my next volumes of Tokyo Ghoul.

I tried the manga and got a hundred-ish chapter in before dropping it.

One of the other posters is right in that it starts out more like a gag manga and that was the part I enjoyed. It didn't matter that Koro-sensei was unbeatable because the kids in the class were the main characters and the comedy was good. However, the deeper into you get, the more backstory you learn the worse it gets. Koro-sensei takes a bigger and bigger role as time goes until for all intents and purposes he is the main character. Which completes his journey to the 'Mary Sue' side of the force. He is unbeatable in battle (even when they finds a way to exploit multiple weakness, he always pulls some new power out of his ass to win), he is super intelligent, a master-class teacher, understanding with his students, and just all around 'the best guy ever'.

The chapter that finally made me put it down was when it was revealed that he has been the good guy the whole time, despite the opening premise.

Even though it's been answered by some users already, I too have read it, and while I enjoyed it, I'm not sure if I could recommend it. Unfortunately, I don't really remember much of the story besides the end. I don't know why, but... I just forgot about it. There are some interesting characters in the manga, especially Koro-sensei, but I'm not sure if I'd say it was good or bad. It was.... an interesting/fun story to say the least.

Way to spoil it before I even start it, lol, don't think I'll bother with it now ;)

If you don't suspect it within the first ten chapters I dunno what to tell you. I was hoping that the twist would be that he really was the bad guy, but then that was ruined.

Hmm, if you enjoyed the anime that much, then maybe the manga will be just as good? I mean, I could just watch the anime, but I'm really trying to get into more manga than anything.

How is it in terms of tone? Is it light hearted, serious, is there any weird tentacle shit in it? Since y'know, the teacher is an octopus thing lol.

Mostly light-hearted, though it gets more serious the more it goes on. I'd say it's comedy first and foremost, with some (imo) well handled dramatic moments.

I won't say there's no tentacle stuff...but it's pretty PG for the most part. Nothing serious at least. :P I think you can handle anything this one might tease.

Hm...it's interesting how the same scene affected our engagement in the story so differently.

I was expecting him to be a misunderstood hero the entire story, ever since an early episode hinted at him being a human previously. Having him turn out to be the former Shinigami, and revealing all the sins he committed in his previous life, only to find redemption after being betrayed, was something I found very well handled. So while he wasn't a villain, I don't think the story ignored the type of person he used to be, and to be honest, I was grateful at how story handled his character arc.

It's true that Koro-sensei takes center stage as the story goes on, though I actually appreciated this more, as I always found him more interesting than the students. He is overpowered, which is why I wouldn't recommend reading it as a battle manga. I like to think of it like One Punch Man, which uses overpowered character in order to fulfill other conflicts. Personally, I found Assassination Classroom to be less of a battle manga, and more of a character drama. The scene after Aguri's death probably defined his character better than anything else in the story. "I want to be weak."

Hmm, maybe I'll read a few chapters online before deciding on it then... what site(s) do you guys recommend by the way? Not sure if I've asked before lol.

Might read a few chapters of Blue Exorcist while I'm at it too, see if that's something I fancy.

I'll PM you a few choices in Modchat.

I read Blue Exorcist monthly. The characters are pretty amusing, and I like the tone overall. I enjoy it enough to recommend it...just keep in mind it's a monthly manga so you'll be in pain like me once you're caught up.

Well, it seems the spin off of a manga I'm reading Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san! is really taking off and getting frequent updates, which is nice to see, though now I feel bad that the child of the two original characters is now receiving all the teasing. It's a cute read, though they're more bite size versions of the main series.

The problem I had was that 'battle manga' or not the conflicts in the story are still solved through his abilities, not character interaction, leaving him far too overpowered. It works in OPM because it is a pure comedy and it doesn't matter if he can solve the conflict effortlessly or not because the humor is what matters. When Assassin Classroom started out it was primarily a comedy and so I felt the same way. However, the more serious it became the more his ability to instantly solve problems and his increasing role lessened the story in my opinion. I was never a fan of Koro-sensei, he was a good obstacle for the students in their chracter growth and a good source of humor, but too over-powered and too over-hyped for me to like him as a character. The story repeatedly rubs your face in how perfect he is, constantly reminding you of the greatness that is Koro-sensei, with his only flaws being lovable quirks (ie not flaws at all).

Shrug. I dunno what to tell you, but I the further I got the less I enjoyed it.

Well, there's a new chapter on Wota-koi and it focuses on the little brother. I like this guys. He's pretty cool and chill, but still cool with his brother, even though they're like total opposites. Also, he has a funny cat mouth, and there's a new character, which... I failed to realize something as well.. xD

Also, anyone following Kyou no Cerberus? A new chapter released and each time I'm reminded why I continue to do so. The art and characters are just soo dang cute! Story -wise it has been good, but I think I follow it more for its artwork, haha.

Gosh darn dog booty shake, and that twin tail one is just... so cute xD

One Piece:

The last 2-3 chapters threw me off with Pudding because I couldn't figure out whether or not Pudding was a tsundere or yandere. Turns out after reading this chapter, she doesn't know either. Nami and Brook carried the team this arc. Honestly, I feel like the arc is taking a bit of a weird turn pace wise. I dunno. It feels like the climax is being stretched out.
