This week's chapters were even better than last week's. I'm not sure if its just the momentum they have going for them, but mn were these good.

One Piece -  Wow again, hands down the best chapter this wee, and that's saying something. DogTooth is a Logia type! I never expected that... I thought he could just create jellybeans lol. The insanse part about it is that he can haki it up. I don't think most can do that considering the nature of their powers (maybe Akoji and Akainu can). Jimbei was absolutely boss too. That Pirate King > Yonkou line was great (as I'm typing this it makes me think of Kanye West's No Church in the Wild). The fact that he said it to the point he didn't even fear death shows how much faith he has in Luffy. Insane. So it really was Brulee's mirror power (What automatically makes this the best chapter this week was the fact that I was right). Seriously though Brook really made this the best chapter. The hilarious part is that it may be DogTooth's fault XD. He shouldn't have told everyone to ignore all the other Luffys. Priceless. I was wondering for second where the MVP was when I didn't seem him with Nami, Chopper and Carrot. Overall fantastic chapter. The action, determination and humor of One Piece has been at the highest point in this chapter.

Bkou No Hero - Great chapter. I like these chapters with a lot of dialogue because Horikoshi does fantastic with dialigue heavy stuff (I was just rereading one of his one-shots. I think dialogue that just goes over details is one of the strengths he has as a manga artist.) I am very happy Suneater's quirk is still intact. That would have bothered me so much. But what Overhaul is doing is the just awful. Like, I know he's a villan, but it just so happens that he is also scum. I really like that despite the differences we see in Deku and Lumillion, they are going through the same process and share the same conviction. Even though Deku is a lot more like All Might and Lumillion is more like Night Eye in judgement, either honestly would be an outstanding successor. But yeah Overhaul is scum. I remember saying to my friends that in like 10-15 chapters that Tomura is going to prove himself to be the far superior villain to Overhaul and I beleive the daughter is going to play a role in this.

Jitsu Wa Watsahi wa - I really like how the story is still able to progress despite the natural ending. Part of me hope the series is never going tp end, but I know that it is going to come sooner than later. :/

At the very least I hope Oka story gets the good ending

These last few weeks have been getting better and better.

Sometimes I really want to smack naive protagonists. I mean, I get it, they drive the story forward by falling/getting pulled into sticky situations but I still want to smack them.

This week, our heroine, who was expressly warned NOT TO LEAVE HER CELL AT NIGHT, heard a scream, at night, so she left her cell to investigate.

Argh.

She also seemed shocked and surprised when she realized that some of the other inmates are dangerous people. It's only a prison for convicted serial killers. It makes sense to truth them, I guess, because they're all pretty.

Am I in the wrong here? Am I too cynical? I'm pretty sure I'd be thinking along the lines of, "well, this girl is cute but she also collected the eyeballs of her victims so I'm going to assume she has some issues."

You rock, Cloudman, thanks!

I like that Jump spread too. Not only are they including the main pairs, but Emma from Promised Neverland gets her time with the stars. Made me smile. Hopefully not her last one. D:

Brook was great...Dogtooth really dug his own grave there. XD

I like seeing Deku and Archie Comices Hero interact...I'm growing more attached to Lumillion. Maybe they'll work together in the future as the top 2 heroes. :P

I'm not familiar with this specific example, but plot contrivances are definitely obnoxious. I see it a lot in fantasy stories, where the author tries to use whatever in-universe logic to explain why someone is acting out of character.

I find some mangaka put the characters first, and advance the story around them, while others will prioritize the story, and then just hope it makes sense for the characters to do whatever they need to advance it. I prefer the former over the latter, but I suppose a truly great author can balance the two without sacrificing either. Though I suppose that's not a huge revelation. :P

Anyways, I read this earlier:

Keijo cancelled, next chapter is the last one

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the Reddit post, but it sounds like the author is being held accountable for the anime flopping, and so the editor just came up and told him to end it. Even if I ended up dropping the anime, this story kind of pisses me off. I honestly didn't know this was a thing...it definitely makes me less enthusiastic to see my favorite manga adapated...when it might circle back to the source material.

About Keijo, it's hard to say.  The Reddit post points out that there is no official source for that quote.  I will say that the manga was better than the anime by a long shot, though.  It was ridiculous but the characters were well made and interesting in the manga.  Hats off to the mangaka for managing to do that despite the direction of the content.

If it's true then I would guess that they were counting on the anime to bring up the sales of the manga, which have never been anything special.  The anime didn't do very well, though, so ...

As for some mangaka letting the plot drive the characters like sheep while others let the characters drive the plot, that's definitely true.  It's something that can make a big difference to me.  Watching characters basically follow a script as though they're just hitting their cues isn't very immersive.  It usually feels either like poor writing or lazy planning.

Hare-Kon, the manga I've been reading lately, is even more enjoyable to me because I never really know what the characters are going to do next.  They're all reacting to one another.  The writer has given them unique personalities which factor into their actions.  One of the wives just did something I didn't see coming, though it makes sense given what the other character did and her own quiet-yet-intense personality, which changed the dynamic in a hurry.  I like that kind of thing.

Of course, you being such a massive fan of Fairy Tail, you probably like questionable plot devices.  Hmph.

Plot? Ha! I've convinced myself it's actually a comedy manga that just wastes a lot of time with stupid fights. It makes it much more tolerable...like when a chef overcooks your steak, so you pretend you wanted a hamburger anyway.

Realistically, I just read it for ships, then come here to whine and pretend people care. Seven Deadly Sins is another good example of that. This one page (spoilers) made me forget every thing that I've groaned about over the past two years.

Though I'll probably forget next time Shota God returns.

-----------

That Hare-con manga sounds like a good example of what I prefer to see; kinda like letting your characters write their own story while the author guides them. It's definitely easier to root for them when they act like characters and not just plot elements.

Because of the weirdness of Supa's images not showing, I thought I'd try to post them as well, so people don't have to deal with the links acting weird.

I also found this image, which looks really neat. It looks like the current face of Shonen Jump, and I hardly recognize any of these characters. How the magazine has changed. I feel so out of touch ._.

I really don't understand what they're doing with their hands. I mean Gintoki's gonna Gintoki, but most others feel so out of place. Also yeah its kinda insane how the comic changed so much. Some fan favorites left a bit too early. That being said, I do recognize a handful, and I am very glad that Midoriya is at the forefront along with Luffy. Slowly but surely, my prediction will come true. Yu-Gi-Oh! is becoming too weird for me on a side note. I'm looking at the card at the top right corner, and I have never felt so out of touch with one of my favorite games.

Haha I man people are coming up with evvery name in the book for this guy. I always thought he looked I imagined a full powered All Might could look like if he were younger. Especially in that one panel where he beat everyone in Deku's class. That being said, I can't see being one of the top 2 heroes, at least not long term. Ddefinitely in the top 4-5 because of Bakugo and Todoroki.

Yikes, the Keijo thing is pretty sad to hear about. I watched the first threee episodes, but after that I dropped it. It was entertaining based of the sheer ridiculousness of it, but honestly it wasn't for me. That being said it was animated pretty well and I thought it had a strong audience so its a bit sad to here that this forced the manga to drop. I guess it may have not done the source material justice dialouge-wise? I dunno, but I hope the mangaka bounces back. I don't think there's anything he could have done in that scenario so he shouldn't beat himself up over it.

Haha, I didn't even notice that. I don't get it either. Some characters are doing like a peace sign, others are waving hello, I think 2 guys are playing rock-paper-scissors, other are trying to fist bump the audience or give a high five, someone is shrugging it looks, and others trying to hide their faces... It's pretty funny now that you mention it xD

At this point, I only know OP, boku no hero, gintama, and hungry marie. So many new faces. And I feel the same way with Yugioh. I played the game in high school, came back to it many years later, and now I see silver, black, and multicolor cards. I like the old days where the game was simpler...

I just love that guy's design XD It's so unique. I can see All Might though...just with how the eyes are drawn simple, and the author has to rely on the rest of the face to show emotion.

About Keijo...I'm guessing it's like Poko said, and the anime just didn't boost it enough outside of the group that was already reading it. I've just never heard of a manga that ended so shortly after getting an anime. Usually I take that as a sign the manga is doing well, but I guess in this case it was a last resort to boost the sales into what the magazine found acceptable.

I watched the anime up until ep 9 or something...and I liked some of the characters (white hair and ponytail were cool, and tall blondie rocks), but just not enough to keep my interest up when the Winter season started.

Also, have you read the new Neverland yet? Huh huh? *pushes you around* Have you?

I was looking for the 2 guys you talking about and I realized all of them have might be playing rock, paper, scissors! I might be looking to into it, but that's but those are the only hand symbols lol.

That one panel gets me in the sides every single time. The anime and manga relationship is pretty sad to hear about. Again, I really hope the mangaka can bounce back. There's defintely an audience for his work.

Also yes! I just read it and Nanatsu no Taizai (the ending of the chapter was a decent enough payoff for the arc).

But wow The Promised Neverland knocked it put of the park.

I did NOT see that coming. I thought they would have to fight their way through bridge for a few chapters, but nope. Great thing too because those guys were packing giraffe demons. GIRAFFE DEMONS! The bottle rockets were a nice touch (I wanted to make a joke about Cola >>>> Pepsi in saving the day, but it was soap bottles :T ).  That one moment with Norman and Ray was extremely sad, but satisfying. More than anything it really showed how much Emma contributed to the plan in ways neither could. It says the next chapter ends the escape arc. I wonder if we get a timeskip or an arc in the outside world next. One thing I noticed when looking at the giraffe demons was that aside from the mama and the scientists, there was a third human with the demons that had a pole, so I'm wondering what their role is. Anyway all in all, excellent chapter.

*The children's day piece was funny and sad at the same time. I wonder if there was hint in the nature of the demons when it was reading the book.

Oh wait, you're right. They are playing rock, paper, scissors, and I feel dumb. It says Janken in that phrase of Japanese on the bottom left corner of the page. It all makes sense now xD
