I don't believe any of it but the idea with the analog sticks actually sounds kind of cool...

Have a nice day...

Several games is what makes peopla wan't a console.

Indeed.

But there's a certain game that ultimately makes you buy the console in that moment, like Zelda, 3D Mario, Mario Kart or Smash Bros do on Nintendo consoles. And Luigi's Mansion is not on that list.

Also there's also the kind of gamer that claims things like "I'll get X console when X game launches" or "If X console gets X game at launch, I'll get it day 1" and other similar things.

For you maybe. The more games, the more 'lists" you're in and that's how you get customers.

wasn't a rumour as it was a survey.

Survey by whom?

People with no access to insider NX info.

How do you know they don't have access?

1-Other than the lackluster launch of GameCube... no, no evidence. Dark Moon launched in March 2013, 20th, 24th and 28th, 3DS sales went up by 5% the week ending the 23rd, and a 28% the next one, only to fall 18% the following week.

So ok, Luigi's Mansion had a short but noticeable effect on 3DS sales. If that's the kind of performance we want for a game to be a launch title, that's debatable (personally, I'm not satisfied).

2-You only get that many months after launch , and I already agreed on another response.

Was it really short though? I'd think a game that goes on to sell another 3.5 million more copies probably helped extend the legs and keep the baseline up a bit. There's more to it than initial launch numbers, including before the game even launches, especially when we're talking about Nintendo games and their sexy legs.

Uh what? The game will still exist and be a factor until the console dies, but anyway I do agree with your main point, they should have a really big game at launch, but already they do, Zelda U!

The same way we know you don't have access. It was a survey from an unrelated company, nothing to discuss.

This link says that it's GFK , which the NPD of Europe and that they are a client of Nintendo's:

So, they're not "an unrelated company".

You have it backwards, Nintendo is a client of GFK

The week before launch, 3DS sales went up by 2% and saw the launch of Super Robot Wars UX. Then it went up by 5% with the launch of Luigi's Mansion and the release of Monster Hunter Ultimate on NA and Europe and that was followed by another 28% increase which also saw the release of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity in Europe.

The next two weeks, 3DS sales went down 18 and 14%. The game had legs, but its effect on the console sales didn't.

As for the other thing, you said "I think any game can help sell systems, maybe not by itself, but combined with many other games of different varietys it'll make the whole library that much more appealing..", and it's completely true. But that's impossible to have at launch, you need months until Nintendo, third parties or both launch enough games for that.

On a side note, if the next Zelda also launches on NX, shouldn't we stop calling it Zelda U?
