Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Phil Spencer: It's OK If PC Gamers Don't Want An Xbox One

They aren't MS exclusives, they're PC games. MS exclusive is a meaningless statement, Xbox exclusive is what matters. There is a huge difference between W10 adoption and Windows adoptions since Windows has been the dominant PC OS for decades.

CIP ROTR on Windows Store has Xbox Live integrated while Steam's version does not. MS is only benefiting from that Windows Store version. The game doesn't require Windows 10 after all, and that steam money goes to Valve and SE not MS.

And if it comes to the selling of games on PC, they are competing with all the other people who sell games on PC.

Furthermore, Steam doesn't encourage Windows use, they don't have a choice, because MS made sure that the major forces behind pc gaming such as DirectX were on their OS. Steam and in a sense most of the tech companies related to gaming are pushing toward Linux and OSX.

In a sense, as soon as WS started getting games it was competiting with Steam and Co, but now with its games like ROTR, QB, etc, its undeniably in the matchups now.

You're dragging this into conversation I don't want to have.

Okay, Steam doesn't nothing beneficial for Windows. Peace out.

Fair enough. However, I must state that I didn't say that Steam didn't do anything to benefit MS (cause it does by virtue of presence), I said its not their choice. Which is markedly different.

I mean Valve could have Steam only on Linux and Mac if they wanted to, but that would be insanity.

Besides his ridiculous PR... it's ok for a person that have 0 knowledge to say only consoles are capable to hook to tv and play with a controler 10ft away but for a head of a tech company involved with consoles and PC this is ridiculous.

And on the Point... at this moment I feel that buying a PC is in fact buying a X1 bundled inside since their library is very similar.

I think it's ridiculous to think he doesn't know you can hook you PC to television 😂 console gaming is unique for its convenience and easiness. He should have just phrased it differently, his point is easy to understand though.

I think its more like MS see's what Steam is, it encourages gaming on Windows and no signficant success on other OSs.

Since Steam's success is virtually only in Windows and everything they do comes to Windows. They don't see a threat.

Is fun how he says thats a "console only" experience but i do it all the time on a PC. Anyway this is just PR

Exactly what I was thinking. I just dismantled my gamign PC and sold it off a few months ago but I had this setup just like a console. When I turned my PC on it booted up straight into Steam big picture mode. The guys either stupid or playing stupid not sure which.

You're missing the point and I don't want to argue what MS does well (they are still a very profitable company for reasons outside of Windows).

You said you think they're afraid of Steam. I'm giving you examples of much bigger companies MS goes head on with.

and im telling you they usually dont fair well against some of those companies. why would Steam be any different?

You don't need to be a market leader to have success in a market.

Their success in various markets has had mixed results. Kinda like MS's competitors.

I feel its more like they dont care.

You're basically saying a company that has taken on on Google, Apple, Nintendo, and Sony is afraid of a PC games distributor.

If anything, maybe they dont see Steam as a threat. Steam users are generally Windows users.

Google is stomping them, Apple is putting up a fight, they got Ninty and they are trailing behing the PS brand. Honestly outside of the Windows OS they dont really compete well with there other products

Because it isn't their area of expertise. None of the brands you mentioned is doing well in more than one market. MS is a software company. They do great there and have a borderline monopoly on firmware... Apple rules the tablet market, Google is a search engine, Sony leads consoles and Nintendo is the king of mobile gaming. None of them are doing better outside of their comfort zone. MS just happens to be the only company that is spreading in all directions and not being pummeled to submission (Apple tried, it hasn't gone well for them. Google knows the software market is beyond their reach and Sony is well aware that their software and online capabilities are non existent). In a way, MS is proving that they are overly resilient and have a lot of cash to blow since they have at least a quarter of market share on everything that isn't mobile phones and over 91 percent on their main market.

And Google isn't stomping them outside of search engines, Chrome and Android (and Android is starting to lose their footing to iOS)...
