Forums - Nintendo Discussion - NX launch line-up if or, let's be honest, when it releases this year?

U missed the point, I'm saying history doesn't always repeat itself.

Right, I got that. I'm saying that Nintendo being consistent is as sure a thing as expecting a river to flow in the same direction every day.

3DS was formally revealed 8 months before launch

A company business plan is NEVER influenced by such hystorical events. There's absolutely nothing dictating how long before release a hardware needs to be announced.

Yes, that statement is true. However, if you have a friend that is ALWAYS late to parties, events, etc, would you suddenly expect them to show up early to the next one? Sure, they have the capability to show up early, but you know that its highly unlikely.

That analogy couldn't be more wrong when compared to this industry.

It's not about Pokemon selling at its potential. Its about making the NX a lot more attractive asap in it's lifetime.

Likewise it's not an extreme measure either offering the game on the cheaper 3DS while similtaneously offering it for the more expensive NX.

And I would argue that the announcement for now for 3DS is due in part to keep the 3DS going, sales wise, until the NX reveal (whereby 3DS sales will most likely begin to dip quite noticeably) and because there are other promotions taking place with Pokemon Sun/ Moon (like the upcoming movie reveal) which they need to work alongside. NX is just not ready to be announced now.

I could be wrong. But I am just being honest about what I feel Nintendo will do: anything released for 3DS/ WiiU around the time of NX is going to be on NX too.

I kinda agree that's what they should do, but we can't think only about the short term. Just as important as having a strong launch is having a consistent flow of game releases. Fine I guess I can't say it's 100% impossible, but highly unlikely. Unlike Zelda they can have a new Pokemon game ready every year so there's far less need to go multiplat as it wont be five years into the console's life before we get the first Pokemon game otherwise.

You act like zelda takes five years to develop, when 3 years is the standard.

The only thing I'm confident in is the NX having some kind of launch game minigame-collection in the vein of Wii Sports or Nintendo Land. Those have proven to be quite profitable.

Many people here are saying that there will be a new 3D Mario released at launch for NX. While I would love for this to be true, I am somewhat skeptical of this. Mainly because we haven't really heard much other than that report a couple years back that EAD was working on a new Mario game. I realize that Nintendo could ninja us again like they did with SM3DW and announce at E3/launch in November, but I'm just not sure that will happen this year.

My guess is that NX launch will have:
-Zelda Wii U port
-Smash for Wii U port
-Pikmin 4
-Some Ubisoft game (BG&E2?)
-FFXV

And that's it. Wouldn't shock me if they pushed the next 3D Mario to 2017.

I act like Zelda U will have released 5 years after SS, which released 5 years after TP (4 years after WW), because that's the case.

The amiibo tie-in game could fill that role, though I hope it's more like Nintendo Land a.k.a. a real game and not a tech demo like Wii Sports.

It'll have been 3 years since the last console 3D Mario, which also was the case for 3D World (2013) and Galaxy 2 (2010), and they just released Mario Maker last year so they probably don't want to do another 2D Mario just yet. At the very least it'll be announced, but yeah it could fall to 2017, though they really should have something more than ports carrying the launch.

3D Mario game can be developed in 2.5-3 years, Mario 3D World was finished in 2013. and Nintendo already confirmed they working on new 3D Mario game long ago, so new 3D Mario will right on track to be released at end of 2016.

And about that Nintendo could Ninja us again, we still don't know anything for certain about NX itself not to mention NX games, all points NX is coming this year that means Nintendo will reveal some NX games at E3 that will come this year also.

Like @Einsam_Delphin wrote, Nintendo will definatly have some other new game/s exept very likeable Pikmin 4, new 3D Mario has very good chances.

I was looking at Wii U's launch lineup and it only had 2 first party titles, so i don't know why NX would be much different? I can see Zelda U being a launch title, along with Final Fantasy XIV, Dragon Quest XI, New Mario Sports game or a 3D Mario platformer and some ports of 8th gen games like, i don't know, Fallout 4 and Assassin's Creed Syndicate?
