Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sony Exec Admits PlayStation VR May Not Match Oculus Rift in Terms of Quality

Was this not already a thread? Maybe I'm confusing it with an article.

Otherwise, of course it won't match the Oculus... They're trying to make the Sony VR headset both an affordable option and designed to work with the ps4 hardware as opposed to cutting edge PC hardware. These two are targeting two different markets, and that's fine.

Obviously since it'll probably be a good bit less pricey than the Rift and Vive, it'll probably be made and thus feel cheaper too. That's a natural trade-off.

bet: lost

whoever is shocked the PS VR is lower quality deserves to have a coconut thrown at their head

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

that's why I'm expecting it to be considerably cheaper than oculus rift.

Apart from the lower FOV (100 vs 110) he's selling himself a bit short. PSVR actually has more subpixels, RGB vs Pentile, and can display at a higher fps, 120 vs 90.

If you compare the information content your eyes receive it's about 712 mega subpixels per second on psvr vs 445 mega subpixels per second on OR. And that by putting a much lower demand on the hardware, 60 fps reprojected to 120fps costs 119 MB/s (1920x1080x60) vs 222 MB/s (2160x1200x90)

But true, one is powered by a Ferrari, the other by a Honda. 90fps is better than 60 reprojected. Plus that Ferrari can add real AA and down sample from much higher resolutions.

Anyway I like that he says, it has to be affordable :)

Is anyone surprised?
We knew this from way back when.
However people that tried the morpheus reported that it was basically a toss up in terms of experiance, when compaired to the Oculus Rift.

Oculus might have it beat in terms of IQ, but probably not by as much as some might think.
Also it wont be 600$ like the rift is so theres a upside to it :p

Being cheaper will be a huge selling point though I don't expect it to be that cheap either..

The name of the game is affordability and not power at this point.

All VR, from what I have heard, offer a proper VR experience.
