What about Gears of War 4, Uncharted 4 and Tekken 7?

Maybe the OP started this Thread 2 years ago.

”Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.”

Harriet Tubman.

Technically, they're all still here. The new Uncharted and Gears look great btw.

Hmm this is a hard question. I'd like to say Splatoon, Bloodbourne and The Witcher 3. Problem is... Most of the ideas and systems in Bloodbourne are indeed just the ground work from the original Demon Souls (so it would be credited for genre defining right?). Splatoon despite being a quirky and fun game is not exactly revolutionary or extraordinary in any particular area and it wasn't genre defining either. Closest of these titles IMO would be The Witcher 3 because it did raise the standard significantly but it does have weak areas that have burdened the franchise from the beginning making me feel unsure if I would qualify it... On top of that I also don't like the idea of talking about a "sequel" in such regard either personally.

Dunno, just my opinion. Horizon seems like it could be something special. I get the feeling it will be designed too mainstream to achieve that, if you know what I mean. I think it's possible the game will end up playing it too safe to be genre defining and mearly one of many great games we've already had so far.

TBH I don't really worry about this much... I mean if all I got were games that expanded off it's predecessor's Ill be happy. It's the main reason I don't have much interest in playing an FPS or RTS and several other genres in VR. I know what I like to play and it's not like it's a frontier for "new" ideas as it is new gimmicks. Different ways to play being revolutionary would mean having a racing wheel would count and most people don't care for that. Though VR can reach further I imagine but you all get the idea.

Kind of hard to really pin point an ideal mentality for this, little to vague of a topic for me. lol

It's most people's view that's why the PS Plus announcements get such overwhelming hate because nobody likes indie garbage.

What makes them garbage? Them being indie games.

Well, sine plenty of people don't like Indie games....and many people do, that cancels itself out (like all games). The PS+ talk is of no consequence. Also, we've established that you haven't given any good reason to believe that these games are "garbage". So, I guess they aren't . :P

How good could they be if they're indie GARBAGE? What reason needs to be given if they are indie garbage? It means they are garbage, that's why they're no good.

Vastly more people hate indie garbage compared to those who do as proven by the toxic reaction to PS+ giving them away.

Banned - It's ban the alt weekend, and you're first!  - Miguel_Zorro

This is possibly the worst attempt at ban dodging that I've ever seen.

I think I'm clever because I created another alt, but really I'm accomplishing nothing.

A lot of people getting into the nitty gritty definition here, but I think I get what OP is saying. There is no real way to define it. A game either has 'it' or it doesn't. Gears and Uncharted definitely did, but yeah I would agree that nothing yet this gen has had 'it'

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

Being a very boring gen so far. Im glad it'll end soon...

Soooooooooo Rocket League doesn't count ? I think it became pretty damn big on it's own...

Nope.... these are not games that will define a generation; Destiny and Watchdogs are cross-gen... I'm thinking of: gameplay-graphics-complete paradigm.

Then probably Horizon.
