Forums - Politics Discussion - Billionaire sentenced to death

"Iranian billionaire Babak Zanjani has been sentenced to death for corruption, authorities said Sunday.
Zanjani and two others were convicted of embezzling billions of dollars from the national oil company, judiciary spokesman Gholam Hossein Ejei said."

What do you guys think about this? Personally, I think it's nice that Iran didn't allow Zanjani to continue his actions just because he is rich.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

Damn that's pretty brutal. Glad to see that he didn't get away with the crime just because he is rich but death is a bit much. I would think that would be better suited for people who actually killed other people.

Seems a bit overboard to get death for "corruption" charges.

Wow, Iran sentencing someone to death that actually committed a serious crime? That's surprising...

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Wow iran teaches the West equal rights and laws for everyone. I doubt you would see something similiar in the US.

well, if those allegations are true the highest possible punishment (which in Iran is death) is fair, as hundreds of millions > billions of dollars could have been used to improve the life of tens of thousends or more people

I believe the banksters that caused the 2008 crash should have gotten a similar punishment.

Let's face it - death is not too much. Why? Because this bastard would just find a way to pay his way out, or pay his way to the palm springs of prisons. I'm normally pacifist about these things but in this case, make an example of this asshole that money won't buy your freedom.

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

What's wrong with you?

You realise this is a highly political thing going on here. This guy was instrumental in "creativity deals" as long as Iran was blacklisted. He has pictures of him with pretty much every influencial Iranian politician. Now that the ban was lifted, he has to go as fast as possible...

Pretty much same procedure as in Russia...

Are you kidding me? Billions embezzled and death is overboard?

To put things in perspective the poverty line (last I checked) in America was around 40K. That means every $200,000 could support 5 people a year above the poverty line. Every million? 25 people.

Now, there are a thousand million in a billion. 25x1000=25,000

Twenty-five THOUSAND people can be supported above the poverty line for a year on one billion dollars. This guy helped take away at the very least two (since billions is plural and at least more than one), which means this guy essentially robbed FIFTY THOUSAND PEOPLE of an entire year's pay.

A bit overboard? It's unfortunate they can only kill him once.
