It's DLC only instead of JUST some invisible, digital file that sits on your HDD, you're also getting a collectable figure to go along with it. So really, if you have an issue with Amiibo, you're having an issue with DLC and DLC was made popular by companies other than Nintendo.

They are almost usually on disc dlc which alone makes them horrible.

Yes, but on disc DLC is wide spread. It's ok to point fingers at Nintendo but when people ONLY point them at Nintendo? I don't think that's fair.

Here's the issue.

People don't want to buy amiibo just to get that extra content, however it is a collectible figure.
They want to give people who buy the amiibo extra stuff, so it just gives them more out of owning it:

That's where it comes from.

So people will complain about having "locked content"
And people will complain about not having those extras for the amiibo they bought.

I love amiibos and I think you just have to suck it up and either buy or not buy them. Cause they definitely aren't going anywhere.

Yep!

Yes it does, it means consumers losing to corporations, it's a really big deal to me.

So does this break the game for you? Even if there are now mechs in the game when as far as I know no entry in the series had them before?

I agree,I am so sad.

Don't think it's the worst this generation, but it's incredibly stupid. I'll buy the game though, but I'm not buying the amiibo trash

I'm not saying the game is bad, and I don't think it breaks the game yet, but it's a horrible practice where a company is taking things away from consumers and there seems not to be a big deal because of it, when it's a big deal, a really big deal.
Support it and they'll keep taking more and more to a point where it will actually break the game if you don't buy one/several other things together with it, while still asking for a full price for the game itself to begin with.

I can't believe people are ok with companies taking advantage over their rights and products, you have to make companies work for your money, make the best they can to get it, not accept whatever they pull on you and keep giving more and more money to them because that's what you'll get.
We are the ones that shape the products we get, is with our money that we tell them what we want, and I don't want them thinking it's ok to rip things away from games to sell me separatedly, even more behind another product that I may not even be interested in, but will have to get to get what they took me away on the game from the beginning anyway.

May I suggest then you wait for the price of the game to drop before purchasing? Seems a fair policy: if a company removes content from a game, you reduce the amount of money you're willing to pay for the game.

Yes, it is. 100% agree.
Unfortunately, there are people out there that don't want to understand and Nintendo will keep selling at them these useless and anticonsumers toys.

Personally, they did work for my money. I wanted figures like these because when will we ever have these? Most Nintendo figures prior to amiibo are usually related to Mario, Pokemon, Donkey Kong, and maybe Zelda. Collector Items are high in price so figures like amiibo not only gives us characters we would have never seen as figures ever without the concept, but at decent prices (unless you fall to scalpers). I mean, when will we ever see Shulk, Marth, Palutena, Ness, Sheik, Robin, Cloud, Bayonetta, Corrin, Olimar, Falco, Capt. Falcon, Meta Knight, or Ryu as figures (or affordable ones at least). These are most Nintendo fans' dreams. And they're pretty good in terms of quality from what I've collected (about 20...).

Plus, Nintendo were inspired by the success of Skylanders and Disney Infinity. They probably though having interaction with multiple games and figures could work. Unfortunate to, most fans probably bought them just as figures, not for their intended purpose. From my experience, Splatoon's single player is solid, even without the amiibo challenges. I don't feel like FE Fates is incomplete without the amiibo content. Smash is spectacular with or without amiibo.

Agains, this is my opinion as your stance on it is yours. In the end, I was able to collect figures I really wanted like Fox, Pikachu, Zero Suit, Mario, Link, the Inklings, etc. because I love these characters and the franchises they represent. And I've played multiple games that include amiibo functionality and I've not felt like I needed them.
