Forums - Gaming Discussion - X-box One Elite at E3?

Say we see an X-box One E (elite) announced at e3 for $399-499. Offers 50% faster chips, more/better ram, etc with end output being games at  consistant 60 frames and 1080p with higher quality assets (superior to PS4 by +/-50% in overall power/performance).  Would you buy one ? Opinions on potential market impact?

Also  it's 100% Oculous and Vive compatible.

PS4 is like 140% (40% faster) than a Xbox One.

a 50% increase of a PS4, would mean ~2.8 Tereflop Xbox One elite (that would be like a 100%+ performance increase compaired to the Xbox One).

You would need a chip twice the size of what the Xbox One currently has.

You would need more Memory Bandwidth, which would mean MS would have to spend a fortune to remake the intire thing.

Basically Research and developement for such a move would be really costly.

I think such a console would probably be close to 599$.

The problem is I dont think people would pay double the cost of what a PS4 will then cost, for a 50% increase in terms of performance.

299$ Slim PS4 will slaughter a 599$ Xbox One Elite (thats 50% more powerfull).

It would likely be a hell of a lot faster than just 50% at that price. At that price it would demolish the PS4 with a modern chip.

I'm not a tech guys so insert whatever numbers you like (or whatever is reasonable based on current chips at that price range). I'm just curious what gamers think of the idea in general?

My opinion is it would flop.

If you can buy a 299$ Slim PS4 that does 1080p.
How do you market the more expensive Xbox One Elite ?

"we can play certain games at double the FPS, buy our Xbox One Elite"

Im not sure that will be enough for the avg joe consumer, to want to pay twice as much for such a console.

Why would that be a plus?

Sony when they designed their PS4, thought ahead, theirs already has VR support.

That would at best just put the Xbox One on pair, with the PS4.

For $499 retail, MS could probably easily get a variant of AMD's 14/16nm Arctic Islands GPU which would destroy the PS4 (3 TFLOP or better).

The thing is though, you cant just magically pump out a new console in a split secound.

If they do release a new better console, at E3, then its because they have put a few years of work into it already.

MS would have had to go "okay f*** this, our console sucks, lets make a better one" , right at the start of the gen, to have a new better one ready now.

They did have a rough start to the gen, so maybe thats possible... but I personally think the next gen will first start around 2020.

Also as much as some just crave a more powerfull console.

PRICE is the king.

Sony would just cut prices and people in stores will go "this is half the price of the other one".

Guess which one ends up selling more? Usually the cheaper consoles sell more than the most powerfull ones.

No chance. It would be the end of the xbox console line if they brought out a new one and killed off the old. There isn't really any reason to get one now that MSFT are releasing the exclusive games for pc too so this would be yet another nail in the coffin.

What good is that competitive wise if they're still lacking in the game department? Fix that first then I see a good reason to release an "XB1 Elite"

I actually think there is a strong likely hood this is what they are planning.
