Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo intentionally locking content to NEW 3ds

Hmm, perhaps the 3DS can't run those games perfectly? At least not at an acceptable level? I dunno.

Well next time remember that buying a Nintendo handheld doesn't entitle you to every game of the gen since Nintendo will release an improved version and lock you out of games.

It's not a big deal for me since i have a N3DS but the whole idea of N3DS exclusives feels wrong.

But i guess Hyrule Warriors Legend and Xenoblade Chronicles 3D make it right, i mean at the end of the day the N3DS gave us 2 great games that wouldn't have been possible with the original 3DS.

Nintendo wants the original 3DS owner to buy a New 3DS because Nintendo wants to make as much money as possible with the 3DS. They don't care about their original fans imo.

Yes, I'm sure that Nintendo chose to add 8 SNES titles to the N3DS VC because it was going to make a lot of people upgrade. That's got to be it, right? I mean, everyone makes hardware buying decisions based on the VC, right?

I do remember reading a post on here once that said to emulate something you typically need a machine that is about 10x more powerful than the hardware that you are emulating.  Now the 3DS is definitely much more powerful than the SNES but maybe the extra boost provided by the New 3DS makes the emulation a little less time consuming for Nintendo and requires a little less optimization.

OG3DS would be unable to properly emulate most titles, moreso if you tried to keep the OS running. The OG is very, very slow per core.

If you need a run down on the limitations, look up blargSNES and see where it died with many titles being in a less than ideal running state and regularly suffering crashes or game-bugs.

They wont bother giving us a good reason to upgrade to the N3DS, so they use BS tactics. Its just how Nintendo operate these days. The NX cant come soon enough imo.

A good reason? Like what, a new unique game for the system and have people complain that they are locking content behind a New 3DS paywall?

Eh... I don't know. I would think the 3DS can do quality emulation of the SNES. On the other hand, I can't imagine how releasing it only on the N3DS would really be that much better of a financial decision than releasing the games to a wider audience. Considering how easy it is to emulate SNES, or to legitimately buy the games on the Wii U or Wii, I don't see this as a move that's going to move a lot of N3DS units in any event.

Several games that are not possible on the regular 3DS.

I'd be all for that. But Nintendo can't seem to win in that situation because we get threads like this that would blast them for trying to make a upgrade worthwhile.

Then they should remember that the next time they try to make a cash grab system.
