Essentially yes(in my opinion). Even if the NX has half the third party support that the PS4 does(which I doubt), most Nintendo fans don't buy third party games for Nintendo consoles AND most people that are into major third party games(COD, Assassin's Creed, Madden, Fifa, Far Cry, GTA, Battlefield, Deus Ex, Hitman etc) aren't really into Nintendo games.

This year is going to be killer for the PS4 even just factoring in it's exclusives. I can count at least 9 console exclusives for PS4 for this year(including Street Fighter V). Continued strong sales and heavy hitters like Uncharted 4, Gran Turismo, Horizon etc will entice more publishers to sign with Sony for either timed-exclusivity/DLC or full console exclusivity and marketing deals. I fail to see how someone like EA or Ubisoft wll support the NX to the same extent as the PS4 and Xbox 1 considering there haven't been Fifa, Assassin's Creed/COD etc on a Nintendo console for years...

The only way it can be successful is if they go the Wii route, by doing something completely different to Xbox and Playstation. Going directly against those two is commercial suicide as third party games don't sell well on Nintendo consoles and they would be going up against a combined user base of over 70 million by years end. Just my opinion.

Nintendo is the best, isn't it? First always in every front. Now they are announcing a console that it's doomed already.

Sure, and they know that. They're just releasing it because of boredom. They will be pioneers in releasing a console knowing it's going to flop xDDD

You seem to be forgetting, one of Nintendo's main goals with the NX is to win back 3rd party support, so some of those multiplat games on that PS4 list may have ports on NX at release or in the first year.

that was their big goal they had with the wii u. Remember e3 2012?

Doomed? no.
Faceing tough competition? yes.

PS4 is a monster though, and its going to get worse the longer they wait with the NX release.
I suppose a option would be to just wait out the gen, and launch a new console when the Playstation 5 launches.
But if your too scared to even try to compete against a competitor, frankly then your already done for.

Nintendo just need to do its best, and make the NX a stop gap console, that ll last until the Playstation 5 launches.

It's been their goal since the Gamecube after they pissed off major publishers by sticking to cartridges. Final Fantasy was always on Nintendo consoles until then. Then they went MiniDVD(which gimped storage just like the cartridge situation), made the Gamecube a purple lunch box, had a lacklustre launch line up(sounds familar to 2012??), made Zelda a cartoon game against public outcry only to go back to a more serious Zelda title with TP.

They just seem to suck at meeting those goals...

Last guardian 2016? hohoho I will believe that when I see it ;)

But seriously, the 2016 lineup of PS4 doesnt really matter much. 2017 would be more important.

NX needs a library from the get go. Give us a 3D Mario game, Zelda, Pikmin 4, Retro Studios and more and the initial success should be there. At least, that is definitely possible and would make the NX sell a good chunk

Difference is, we've been hearing from multiple sources that 3rd party developers actually like NX. Square Enix for instance was already considering putting Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy XIV on it after seeing Nintendo's behind closed doors demo at E3 last year, and quite possibly more of their games as well. EA was supposedly impressed as well, rumor has it they've had dev kits since late last year.

1. all that are rumors.

2. http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2012-07-23-ubisoft-says-wii-u-ports-costing-under-USD1-3-million

Also again: See e3 2012. EA and all said "wonderfull console".

Actually, developers were extremely enthusiastic about the Wii U prior to its release. "Asymetrical multiplayer" was being ithrown around by the likes of EA given the gamepad would function as a hidden 5th player whom could operate in secret and hidden from the other 4 players.

2017 will most likely by Kingdom Hearts 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Shenmue III, Final Fantasy 7 and lots of other unannounced stuff. No see what Nintendo managed to release in 2015 oe 2013 for wii u.

But..... Zelda U port.....
