Outside of reassuring us that Zelda NX is still coming to the Wii U of course. I already felt this was gonna be the case as why would Nintendo waste time talking about a failed system they're not even supporting anymore over hyping up the one that still has chance. Out of curiosity I looked back at their E3s before their previous two console releases, and now I'm absolutely positive this will be case.

In 2012, the Wii wasn't mentioned periord, certainly no new announcements for it. Even the 3DS barely got any screen time. In 2011, Skyward Sword was the only Wii game, no new announcements. In 2006, the only Gamecube talk was a brief mention that Twilight Princess would still release on it. Super Paper Mario was apparently announced here, on the side somewhere, but we all know what happened to that game. In 2005, the Gamecube had a lot of games still to release, so they crammed them all into a 10 minute highlight reel.

Okay, 10 minutes is still more than a mention, but again, that's cause the Gamecube actually had a lot of games. The Wii U has nothing by comparison, as did the Wii in 2011/2012 and we've seen the result of that, even despite Wii being their most successful console ever. Sure if they announced new games then they'd have games to talk about, but in all four of those E3s there was not a single new announcement for their current console except Super Paper Mario in 2006, which wasn't even in the conference itself. Naturally they focused mostly on their upcoming console, especially during the year it released in, which is why E3 2006/2012 are more relevant for how this upcoming E3 go, wink wink nudge nudge. I expect they'll first start off with the Pokemon anniversary and a Sun n Moon trailer, but after that it'll be all about the NX. Oh and no, I'm not asking to make a bet with anyone. :L

Here are links to their E3 conferences in question for reference.

If Nintendo does a Direct soon talking about this year's releases, they will probably announce every single project left for the WiiU. A big NX presentation with all the launch games for the system will be left for E3.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I think so too.
This will be an NX show.

If they are revealing the NX and releasing it this year they have no need to mention WiiU outside of Zelda U and even then they may just show it running on NX and say also for WiiU at the end of the trailer.

Assuming there even are any lol. The Pikmin 4 bit from Miyamoto lends to the idea that any significant unannounced Wii U projects have been moved to NX since why wouldn't they have announced them already. I think they'll reveal NX and that Zelda U is multiplatform before E3 in either May or April leaving very little time for a current gen direct, but the bigger problem is content, or lack therof. They obviously can't talk about Zelda, and with Starfox liking getting delayed that leaves nothing on the Wii U side, and the 3DS only has Sun n Moon. A direct at this point would have to consist almost entirely of new announcements which is extremely unlikely.

Maybe not just about the Wii U, but i guess they will announce some cross-gen games, so I dont think the Wii U will be left totally behind.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

EU has still a lot of titles without release date. Plus, Youkai Watch 2, the Dragon Quests and other 3DS 3rd parties can fill a decent Direct, specially if we count Sun/Moon and those codenamed titles shown in the leak.

Very possible, they will confirm again that Zelda U is coming on Wii U too.

There's probably not a whole for the Wii U left to talk about.

Trev/SuperMetalDave's NOA source basically told him the Wii U only has one more game planned for release for the rest of the year in North America that hasn't been formally announced and that's likely Paper Mario U.

Agree, I expect Nintendo Direct in near feature, and that will be probably last time Wii U being in focus in Nintendo Direct.
