Forums - Nintendo Discussion - No Metriod Til Atleast 2019 Seriously Nintendo?

In my experience, games like F-Zero and Metroid are incredibly overrated. They're just not fun or satisfying. They're Nintendo's worst b-series games.

Maybe if they made Metroid more like Mass Effect and F-Zero more like Mario Kart, they would be much better. Give Metroid an actual story, don't make it first person, and stop doing boring Doom/Quake style FPS dungeon crawls, THEN Metroid will be a good game.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Why do you think the next metroid or metroid prime will be developped by Retro Studios?
If there is one thing clear, it's that Retro is finished with Metroid.
Also, most of the metroid team is not working at retro anymore. So it is as much a good idea as Perfect Dark Zero was.

It's Nintendo, they specialize in doing what the opposite of what their fans want.

Besides, I honestly don't think they know what to do with Metroid any more. The series represents everything modern Nintendo shies away from; it's dark, mature, and traditionally both technologically and conceptually ambitious. The Nintendo of today doesn't seem to have the guts to make the grim, gorgeous reboot the series is screaming out for.

This. Exactly this.

Very, very, very well said.

As for Metroid, the only kind of Metroid people SHOULD be hoping for, is an honest to god, 2D (actual 2D) follow up to Metroid Fusion. Or even better, ignore that that game's story happened (game was good, story was dumb), and just do another "Metroid IV" take, taking place after Metroid III (Super Metroid).

If people want a Metroid game, ask for a Metroid game. Not another FPS. The Prime games were good, and in fact I really enjoyed playing through MP3 especially. But I don't need another one. That was a side series. Not what the series should be from now on.

Ugh, I don't think I'd even buy a new 2D Metroid. That'd be a big step backwards if you ask me. This isn't the 90s anymore.

Why even bother doing another 2D game?

So i was thinking g about the future of the Metriod series after Federation Force and remembered this.

"If we started for Wii U now, it would likely take three years or so. So it would likely now be on Nintendo's NX console,"

The Metroid Prime creator said there was no game in development. He also said it would take three years to complete one. We know Retro is working on a game since 2014 and since this was said in 2015 its not Metroid Prime. So unless they started development on a Prime game last year then the next game in the series is launching in at least 2018. Are you serious Nintendo? The last Prime game launched in 2009 that's almost 10 years, and its not like the series sells bad since the game sin the series has sold over 1 million units. This is unacceptable from Nintendo.

1 mio is horrible sales whise if you compare it to just dance which sold 15mio + and probl need 10% of the Budget.

Do you have a link to this quote by any chance? And it would be crucial info to know when he said that.

But yeah, that's always something to keep in mind - AAA games take 2-4 years to make. That's why I often argued with people that were delusional about future lineups of their consoles. For example, Wii U: 1 year ago people would still get angry when you pointed out to them that, whatever was not even hinted at by Nintendo at that point, had no chance to still appear within the system's time window.

Whatever games we hope to be playing in the first 2 years of NX have to be in development already.

if you're implying that Metroid doesn't really have a 'story' then you either haven't actually played the games or just weren't paying attention while you were. a lot of the 'story' comes from collecting notes and reading technologial crap with your scanner. you have to PUT together the story on your own, its not spoonfed. In fact that's one thing that makes the Metroid series so great, its storytelling matches perfectly with its dark and eeiry mood. a game in its tone would seem strange if it was like super strongly narrated and told

and the F-Zero series is one of the best racing franchises ever. I don't know if you've played F-Zero GX or not but its probably the best racing game in the last decade and a half imo. tons of content, tons of customizable features for your vehicle, a great story mode, etc.

to suggest that F-Zero should be more like Mario Kart is one of the silliest things I've ever heard- the games are not AT ALL alike. one, despite retaining a comic-book cartoon esque vibe, is a SERIOUS racer, and the other is a party-game aimed at kids. that suggestion would be akin to saying that Gran Turismo should be more like Mario Kart. its absurd

Because people enjoy them? Just because graphics get better and gameplay styles change over time, it doesn't invalidate that which came before.
