i keep removing it from the PS4 but the icon keeps reappearing, very annoying.

I have been using it on the PS3 for a while now. Over a year I think. I use my PS4 strictly for games, so I have not tried it on the PS4 yet. I use the free version. I have thought about subscribing for the premium version though.

I downloaded the app around 8 months ago with the "1$ per month first three months" offer for the premium version. Had it since then, and it's absolutely great. You can download songs to your phone and play them with data turned off, you can use your phone as a remote for the ps4 app while you have a game running, and you can choose from a massive library to add to your own collection. It's worth the price for me. The account integration is pretty sweet too. I can basically use my phone as a Spotify ID and take control of any smart device that has the app.

The desktop version lets you choose and play what you want... I'm guessing the PS4 version is like the mobile app which means you can't. If you make playlists in your account on the desktop version though you can listen to them (on shuffle) on the mobile version, which means you only listen to songs you have chosen even if you can't choose a specific song at a specific time.

The setup is different, but the functionality is pretty much the same as the desktop version.

I really like the Spotify app on the PS4. You can pick your own songs and playlists, it only plays a minute of ads every half hour. It's great.

You can make your own playlist on PS4, it's kind of a pain, but doable. Better to make the playlist on PC then you can select it on the PS4.
