Sony Ends Shipments of PlatStation Vita TV in Japan

Sony added to the official Japanese listing of the PlayStation Vita TV, or PlayStation TV as it’s called in the west, the label “出荷完了,” which means “End of Shipments.” This means that shipping of the home spin-off of the PS Vita will be discontinued in the country.

This applies to both the stand-alone PS Vita TV and to the “Value Pack” with DualShock 3 and memory card.

PlayStation Vita TV, or PlayStation TV, as it was called in the west, was never a successful product in Japan. The latest known numbers by Media Create, dated January 3rd, indicate its lifetime sales in the country at 185,452. The firm stopped providing numbers since, possibly knowing of the upcoming discontinuation.

This does not mean that the console will disappear from the shelves immediately, as it might take a while for stocks to be completely gone, but only four units remain on Amazon Japan for the Value Pack, and five of the stand-alone version on Amazon Japan at the moment of this writing, while at the popular retailer Yodobashi Camera it’s already completely sold out.

At the moment we don’t know if the discontinuation will extend to the west any time soon, and we’ll let you know if Sony makes an announcement on that.

this means..

Oh WOW! I thought the Xbox One would leave first........ XD

Pocky Lover Boy!

I should buy one before they become collectors items

Dammit, they haven't gone below 50€ where I live, and now they are starting to discontinue the thing? I hope it's just Japan only, the regular Vita sells well there, they don't need the TV model.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

TV version is pointless in the current JPN market. It was a nice idea but it was never really going to gain traction.

I thought it would be a hit with those Japanese who don't have enough room between the refrigerator and bathroom wall to cram the PS4 in.

But...but it's selling a lot more than the xbone there!
Honestly it's not necessary in japan where people prefer having a portable device to play games anyway.
