Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Pikmin 3 is crazy unappreciated

Tagged games:

Whenever people talk about standout Wii U games, this one hardly ever seems to get mentioned. I mean, as a game that came out in 2013 naturally it doesn't get talked about as much as more recent games, but other 2013 games like 3D World and Wonderful 101 still seem to get way more attention.

Maybe I just have a higher opinion of it than most Wii U owners, but I honestly think it's one of the best games on the system. It's got a wonderful atmosphere that recalls (appropriately given it's genesis) playing in the backyard as a kid watching ants and other critters doing their thing, it looks gorgeous with vibrant colours and brilliant quirky creature design, the gameplay is elegantly constructed with a well modulated difficulty curve, and as whole it just feels refreshingly unique, which is rare thing in today's gaming scene.

Anyone else feel this game doesn't get the credit it deserves?

Pikmin 3 is a good game. Thankfully, it's being re-released under the Nintendo Selects banner (which kinda hurts the box-art, I'd rather they just go through reprints). I never would have bought it had it not been a part of the MK8 promotion, but now Pikmin 4 is on my radar, probably on many other people's radars as well.

I expect Pikmin 4 to do much, much better than Pikmin 3.

bet: lost

Haven't played it yet. Hope to soon as it's the first Pikmin game I owned. If it's good as people say, then it does show Miyamoto still has it, even with Sticker Star being a downer for most (haven't played that yet either). Of course good gaming decisions matter, but I think Miyamoto shouldn't be counted out just yet as a game developer with this game and games like Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon (recommending online multiplayer) in mind.

Its a great game and needs more love.

i had never payed a pikmin game before pikmin 3.
the lack of games in 2013 made me try this one.
and this game sold me to the pikmin world. =D

I don't think so. I think the other games are just more fresh and memorable. I mean it is not really fresh if this is the third game in the series. I still think that game and Xenoblade are the most interesting single player games though. I haven't really wanted any others.

Bought it, I really enjoy the multiplayer battles.
The gameplay is not for Everyone...

As a Nintendo fan I found it to be just another well made, quality game that severely lacked any sort of ambition. Also, I couldn't figure out whether I wanted to play with the Wii Controls or the gamepad. Neither felt right to me.

I agree. People who say this game is not fresh probably didn't realize the potential of it. I mean, you are not controlling just one or two units at the same time: you're controlling three! While this doesn't sound exciting, it actually is... as it opens tons of opportunities. Also, controlling them with motion plus was truly perfect; and let's not forget the fact that we also can use the gamepad to set automatic paths for characters. You end up using 3 controls together (Nunchuck + Wiimote + Gamepad)... it's truly impressive how it all works amazingly well. Plus, I feel that Winged Pikmin added some new exciting possibilities to the series.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

It's good. But to short, the story felt rushed with the ending completly underwhelming. That feeling of playing something that felt incomplete to me is what ruined it for me. But still a good game.
