"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered.... I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies.... The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.

The Co-Founder of the Republican Party predicted the Great Depression would follow the Establishment of the Federal Reserve. I, and the Tea Party, miss the Old-old Republican Party. Today's Dems and Reps are both just Alexander Hamilton's Federalists.

Coming from a Christian background my reasons for voting Republican are quickly eroding away.

For years I've put up with the open attitude of greed with the hope that what I'd be getting back in terms of moral direction of governance would counter those motivations. However, the Republican party is turning away from a traditionally minded model of governance where social services and public safety nets are offered with a mind towards them being temporary help ups instead of permanent welfare states.

The rhetoric used now borders on hatefulness of the poor and weak with a dash xenophobia thrown in and hardly represents the America I want portrayed at home and around the world. The new thought process is very social Darwinian and that just sickens me.

This is an insightful post.  I live in the rural south, where the Republican party has long been the chosen party of the more racist and intolerant elements.  That's not an attack on Republicans, it's just the simple truth.  Now, though, more than I can remember, some segments of the party really seem to be courting that group.  I suppose they don't care as long as they get those votes.

My mom is a Republican, an active Christian, and very much a lady.  She's probably always going to vote Republican because that's where her values rest but she is very turned off by hateful rhetoric.  As an example, she seems to be in shock right now at the way people are embracing Trump after the way he's insulted and bullied others all during his campaign.  At this point in her life, being a good person is probably the thing she looks at the most.

I know it's not going to happen but we really need three parties.

Could always just vote for the democrats then?

Because McCain was hopelessly outmatched, the party thought they could boost their appeal by putting someone far more extreme than him on the ticket. Then, people saw that Sarah Palin was actually much more popular than McCain, and they started going down that road.

It has come to the point now where endorsing things that even Reagan and Bush supported (seven day waiting periods on guns, ban of high capacity magazines, background checks on guns, amnesty for illegal immigrants) will now disqualify any potential presidential candidate.

Basically, the republican party stuck their dick in crazy. And now they have herpes.

Lol....

I can imagine Trump paying top dollar to create his own Mt Rushmore with himself and Kanye West as the big giant heads.

Well I lived in the US since 1988 and since that time the republican party always has more cringe worthy candidates then the democratic party. And since they unleashed Palin on the national spotlight since 2008 they also have more bat shit insane candidates.
