I despise the way the game was released and the apologists working hard over it, but I don't want the game to bomb. Not only would that put future SF games into jeopardy, but that would make Capcom a lot less willing to take risks on other fighters. They used to make a lot of good fighters. I want a Marvel vs Capcom 4 that plays more like the original MvC than the two sequels. That will never happen if SFV is a failure for them.

It could also make them more hesitant to make other risky games outside the fighting genre. I will buy down the line. I know they (supposedly) aren't doing "super ultra" editions with SFV or whatever, but there will just be corresponding updates instead. So instead of a Super Ultra SFV Arcade Edition SKU, you'll just have a content update. I can wait for those and pay less.

I think the only real thing in jeopardy is exclusive deals for future titles. I think this will pretty much mark the end of that if the game noticeably underperforms.

Hopefully you're right.

Wonder how the digital sides going? , I have a sneaking suspicion that certain genres like fighting games that have seen a retail decline , are getting a greater than average sales % from digital, the poll needs a verdict out option.

Which is why I wish they DIDN'T make the PC/Steam pre-order bonus the sexy Chun-Li dress outfit. No doubt they nabbed a TON of PC/steam pre-orders/sales that aren't gonna be tracked because of it.

Anyways, I need to see more sales data before I judge its overall first week sales. The WW numbers should be posted sometime today, they usually come on Wednesday IIRC.

Mediocore in terms of 4 hours mind you

Are you backpeddling by changing the definition of words now?

Length isn't equal to quality. Frankly, a four hour game can be a blast. Black Ops III is more like 8 hours by the way.

I agree with you 100%

Funny thing is, he was defending exactly 2 Days Ago the game Mitsurui Kamui Hikae which lasts around 2 Hours and he said:

"I would take Mitsurugi which last 2 hours at any day, Quality > Quantity." (this was in comparison to The Witness, which supposedly lasts around 70 Hours)

People wanted more data:

Street fighter V first week in Japan 41/42K

SFIV in Japan 86K on PS3/38K on Xbox 360 or 124k/125K first week in Japan.

The Capcom guy said it would take awhile to make SFV. It's not a game that wasn't going to happen without Sony.

If anything, maybe the Sony money saved it from being even more bare bones and rushed.

Wrong:

SFIV for 3DS is still selling, so it remains to be seen. I think this a question better assessed when the game gets it's missing comtent.

What happens to SFV is incredibly important for the fighting game genre though. Last time a Street Fighter game (SFIII) became a commercial faliure, we entered the "dark age" of fighting games, where barely any new fighting games were made for nearly a decade, except for Tekken which was almost single handedly carrying the scene.

That is why I have mostly been a Tekken gamer up until now, I also enjoyed some of the more authentic representations of MA. But I bought USF4 and SFV to support my console and the genre as playing fighters on xbox feels sluggish on those ABXY buttons and everyone knows the quality of the d-pad.

Anyway, it´s okey. I mean with all the frothing at the mouth going on in similar threads to this it is obvious gamers no longer want Street Fighter.... at least I can say I had the last one and that it was fantastic.

If the fans are happy should you not be happy for them?  This ain't my type of game so I'm not emotionally attached to it.  But if they've satisfied the hardcore fanbase on pc and ps4 then I'm happy.

Closest thing I can think of is Hitman.  That's launching with little content and it will expand over 12 months.  You get all the content in the end for the same money so it's all good.  Just a different way of doing it.

Capcom got the important part perfect and they'll add the extras later.  It's all good :)

I can't say that I am happy at the lack of features that were in previous SF games as well as having a very short campaign. Usually people on here as well as elsewhere tend to like their stories and their campaigns than just pure mulitplayer, SF like MK had their stories to tell per game and the trailers these days are more or less hinting to stories that are within the games themselves, when the game lacks that then I can't help but be disappointed, it's like going to see a film that was being touted as a stellar action packed movie but when you go see the film, it lasts 30 mins and lacks much if any action and then you leave disappointed.

I count Hitman as being the same with SF, another AAA title that is going to be sold in pieces and is already lacking (especially in terms of visuals and the AI, my god the AI).

Basically those two recent titles bring me back to Jim Sterlings say on the subject:

Will much of the missing SFV content be added later for free or part of the season pass?

A bunch of it is free and the rest you can earn in game like costumes or DLC characters. The season pass is for people who don't want to play the normal game modes to earn the money and just want to play the game. At the rate I'm going though just from leveling online and playing the story modes I'll be able to get everything once it's released.

It'll be fine. Check back in 2 years.
