Imo the lower then expected sales are due to the game's current form, being on less platforms and that it doesn't have the advantage that SFIV had in that the large amount of hype was a combination of the legacy Third Strike left and the notion of a new approach to follow it.

SFV probably won't sell as much as the previous installment but it should eventually sell enough.

SFV launched as is because Sony wanted a notable game quickly and Capcom probably needed to meet a launch date.

That's not the case here. It's heavily rumored that Capcom needed this game out fast for Capcom Tour 2016. Which they have invested a lot of money in for it's projected success. I wouldn't doubt that Sony wanted the game to come out soon, but I doubt it was a neccessity. This seems like both were to blame here. Let's not forget that pro players needed to get familiar with the game before EVO. Definitely see both companies at fault here for the screwed up launch of this game.

I agree that it will have great legs, but this shouldn't have NEVER happened.

Critically? Definitely yes. High 70's is disappointing for a mainline Street Fighter title. Commercially though we will have to wait and see, I can see it selling huge in the US where fighting games are still a big draw.

It's funny how some people need to game to "flop". People should be happy that a game that otherwise wouldn't exist came out.

You genuinely believe Capcom needed Sony to make a new release of their mega popular IP?

I personally don't believe Capcom needed Sony to release an incomplete game.

If you ignore constant reports of Capcom being at risk of being bought by another company , Capcoom's well reported fianacial troubles, and a developer saying he doesn't have the funds to make SFV, then I guess you can believe whatever you want.

Sony is not to blame, sony is a company that wants to make money and they could have pushed it to a Holiday 2015 release but they didn't. Secondly sony invested in the game so Capcom should have an Obligation to release a great game. Secondly in Europe the game is bundled and that must be another investment from Sony because I don't believe Capcom doesn't get money for every copy that is bundled with a PS4.

Sony did a great thing to invest in a game for its fans and Capcom should be gratefull for it but what they delivered feels very ungratefull. Honestly if I was a Sony executive I would be pissed with Capcom. god I wished Sony used that money to make a new Ape Escape or a new Legend Dragoon. Urgh X_X.

I mean Splatoon pretty much did the same thing, we'll see how it works out for SFV

It really didn't. Splatoon came out for 38€ not 65€. Big difference.

Now, now. No need to spread dismisinformation.

Also the sales in the chart include bundles if my information is right.

The Capcom guy said it would take awhile to make SFV. It's not a game that wasn't going to happen without Sony.

If anything, maybe the Sony money saved it from being even more bare bones and rushed.

This is actually really bad for fighting games. Capcom will have to release new versions down the line to recoup from this mistake. Its no longer a question of "if". Ofc the content will be fully available from the vanilla version, but repacks will have to happen.

This is exactly what I'm saying, and it cannot be understated. Capcom really fucked this up. Street Fighter is THE fighting franchise.

All they can do now is use their secret weapon, Nintendo vs. Capcom, and undo this mess.

I'd say street fighter is THE second fighting franchise. Still a big mess up.

Different cases like day and night.
