Forums - Gaming Discussion - Fallout 4 Sold More Digitally Than Physically Day One

Damn, i imagine it must've sold very well on Steam then to have the digital sales beat out the physical sales.

Never-the-less, congrats to Bethesda on the great success on a great game!

I think that we as the hardcore gaming community look at this from a very different perspective than that of the casual gamer.  I would say the majority of people play their game and then forget it exists.  They either trade in their disc to get the next game, or leave it on their hard drive until they need space, and it never really goes any deeper than that.

As collectors we are in the minority.  The value for most people with regard to most anything is in their initial experience.  I pay 60 bucks for a 10 hour game, I am satisfied with my 10 hours, as an example.   The convenience of digital just allows them to get their 10 hours in a faster more direct way.

Maybe they should learn about preordering games then. I always preorder physical games and usually get them at least 1 day early, but in one case as many as 4 full days early.

If I pre-order a game through Amazon or another mail-order service I typically get it around 2pm on the day of release, so digital would actually be faster for me.  Regardless though, pre-ordering is again another thing that mostly is done by those who would be classified as hardcore gamers and not casuals.

I've always said the huge games will be bought more digitally.

You're American right? Might be unavoidable for you, but UK people should go for Shopto.net instead. They're great for preorder delivery times.

I am.  I get movie releases a day or two before the street date, but never video games.  It is a sad sad situation for me :(

The time is coming where the physical relics are being replaced by the digital. It;s time to accept that times have changed and they will continue to change, no amount of downplaying or "justice" is going to change the way the market shifts. Digital gaming is continuously growing in number and will do so for years to come. Also for those talking of Steam being DRM and "losing ownership", you actually have no right to mod your console and get banned for it rightfully by the markers you buy from, even then once that console dies, that's it entirely for that physical copy when you have no backwards compat, no digital library that keeps going. Valve also stated that if the time were to come where they would have to close up shop, that they would have a solution in place, besides that I can play my games in offline mode without being connected to the net as well.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

The denial and downplaying is adorable.

I just found this old article that claims 640k sold day one digitally on console.

What were the physical sales for Fallout day one? T

his article claims 12M but that probably shipped + digital sales..

I haven't bought a physical version of a game for a couple years now...

Good, I went 100% digital on my PS4 too and never looked back. I never cared about reselling games anyway.

I'm one of them
