As is often the case with VGC, most of the commenters are totally misinformed. Kesha testified in a completely different case unrelated to this that she was not sexually assaulted by Dr. Luke, allegedly on the advice (read: "If you want your career to live you say this) of the label's lawyers. The whole argument here is that she was forced to lie under oath because he (allegedly) threatened her. She's screwed either way on perjury and she doesn't seem to care. The CURRENT issue at hand is that she is arguing that Sony should let her go or move her completely from the control of Dr. Luke's label because both sides refuse to make music. The contract, I believe, was for seven albums, and she needs six more*. Problem is, Sony's offer is to move her from his label but require him to directly produce half of the songs on each album henceforth, meaning she has to work with the man who (allegedly) raped her directly still. AND he'd still make a chunk of profits off of her work (which probably makes her sick).

Unrelated but she also hates her music but she can't up and change her sound because Sony has to approve any album for it to count towards that six.

She's not at this point to my knowledge arguing anything towards the rape allegation, she just wants to make music again without being near this guy.

Lastly, take into note that she's been under contract for a decade now and that this case has been going on silently for two years. It's not like this is a new issue that just suddenly came up. Look into the history between the two, if you're curious. She's openly hated the guy since at least she was famous enough to be heard. Hell, most of the famous singers that have worked with the guy seem to be in agreement that he's a piece of garbage.

*I think she released an EP at one point that may or may not count for that minimum.

Allegation is not proof, and Sony would be liable to this manager for violation of contract for doing this without any actual evidence to support it.  And yes, he will make money off of her work, he's her manager.  She signed a contract, for better or worse, without proof, not much can be done.

What's interesting is you're more than happy to talk down to VGC Members, I'd love to see you do that in front of a Judge.  Would be hilarious to watch.

None of that matters from a legal standpoint. And she could have easily refused to answer or dodge the questions at the time rather than outright lie about it.

Thing is if Sony let her go, people should boycott her. But i don't listen this crap I'm 80's 90's music all the way!

Errrrrrrrrrrrr

There are some "minor" details missing. For example...

September 2008: Ke$ha terminates her contract with DAS – something she now says Gottwald “intimidated and convinced” her into doing (notably, this is almost exactly the same languageDAS uses themselves to describe the firing). Despite no longer having a contract, DAS continues to find Sibbert work as a songwriter and performer.

I understand this, hence the part about her being screwed on perjury. Hindsight is 20/20 and even then  Kesha never seemed like she was the brightest bulb in the house. I'm stating her argument since people are coming through this thread without understanding even a bit of this and saying "she lied" without any context. Misinformation is worse than no information at all.

Notice how I said "allegedly" every time in that post? That's because I know what an allegation is and what it means in the context of a court. Not sure where you got otherwise or felt the need to explicitly reply with that.

I never said anything about her having a leg to stand on in court, I said WHY she's got this suit and the issues that have been in play since before the suit started. I could go into a rant about how these young kids are pressured into an all-or-nothing contract like this when they have even a chance at a shot of stardom, but that has no bearing here.

Lastly, a judge would have read up on both sides of the argument AND heard the proceedings before making a statement. Many people in this thread have done literally nothing close to that and have instead started slamming one side or the other based on what their friends told them or what have you. Not that the court case matters legally here, this is a PR battle through and through, and Kesha is winning. She now has to deal with the possible issue of perjury, of course, but she's clearly not been one to fully think things through. This was her last ditch effort to get Sony to release or move her somehow.

Yes, 200,000 signatures means she's winning in a world with over 7 billion people.  Not to mention 200,000 dumb as shit people, who need a petition to boycott something.

As far as being informed, she kind of needs to be.  She's suggesting that Sony breach it's own contracts with an employee, by violating it's agreements with an employee.  Pretty sure that's actionable as well.  So, I mean, it's quite well documented that young contracts can be predatory, and that does suck.   But, sometimes we make mistakes early in life that we end up having to pay for.  Such is life.

If only more people in the world, behaved in a manner befitting the former bolded, rather than the latter.

Go ahead ban me, if you think you need to sign a petition to boycott something, you are in fact, dumb as shit.

So whats the difference in your post and many others in this hread? Your saying shes a lyer? when your basing this off a justice system which isnt perfect? Innocent people have been proven guilty and guilty people have been prove innocent trhoughtout the history of mankind. Things like this happens all the time. Just because she swore under oat doesnt mean it never happened. She could have been to afraid to say otherwise. I am not taking ides here and i am smart enough not to get involved. Imagin if this was daughter going thought the exact same thing, claiming she was not raped but actually was? Just saying.

I'll just leave the oats, the rest of my post wasn't really constructive....

Let's just say I disagree with you, I'd rather not form the lynch mob at the drop of the word rape and I would rather a world where if the word was dropped by either party then both parties would have something to lose from it, so far she has made a claim which went as far as court where she said she had lied.... and now has the backing of 200k derps + is getting financial support. It's fairly clear at this point the only outcome of this will be her getting her way and being allowed to break away from her contract, the guys name is run through the mud completely regardless of the courts ruling or ya know... what she said happened in court.

You could be right but then again, what if she lied to the court with a lie.. and what if she was really raped and wants all the help she can get? This is why i stay out of these debates. I shouldnt even be here, i dont care for either party.

The thing is tho, she lied either way, if she was raped, then she lied under oath which is a felony and if she wasn't raped then she lied when she made the accusation, the only thing I'm saying is that I would like to see a justice system where there was just as much a punishment for the second one as there is the first, when you see what that sort of claim does to people's careers now it's sick how it can destroy an innocent person.

Like... either way you look at it, the only person you know for sure is lying... is Kedollarha
