Forums - Politics Discussion - Do people fear you because of your skin color?

I was called a taliban because of my beard. People are just stupid, and it's hard to fight against that. I also had problems on university because of doing my presentations with a sweatshirt and jeans. I did some nearly perfect presentations at college and I was penalized for not going with suit. 1/10 less for that shit. I was suposed to be shaved and wearing a suit. Fuck, I don't want to buy a suit, and I don't want to shave myself. Not a problem with my skin color because I'm white in a white country so...

EDIT: Also those priceless looks when you go out on New Year's Eve without a suit.

People fear me because I'm a 6ft bald sack of muscle. And I'm black. I'm actually really nice but I have to act overly nice to put people at ease sometimes.

I remember walking home once and as I was walking up the road a woman in her car locked the doors, she obviously thought I looked dodgy.

Also I recently got told after giving a presentation (for indie funding) that I looked much better when smiling because I looked scary otherwise :(

Ps I am white. So the thing is, are people scared of skin colour or scared of face/look? I would think there are some people who are scared of skin colour, but I think how a person looks makes a big difference, for example people wearing scruffy looking hoodies...

Making an indie game : Dead of Day!

I have been told that I look like "the kind of guy who would bury an ax in somebody." before and my wife told me that she had reservations about dating me because she thought I looked like a serial killer. And I guess since statistically white males are the most dominant race in the serial killer field... maybe?

I find this crazy, id never fear anybody for being a certain race, colour or whatever you want to call it. It doesn't mean anything. However if there was somebody walking down the street with a loaded gun or swing a machete around then I'd definitely try to avoid them until it became obvious I couldn't and I had to defend myself, or somebody else.

People don't seem to treat me differently because of my skin color.

I live in the south Bronx (NYC for those who might not know anything about the Bronx)...
I am the only white person in a neighborhood of blacks and Hispanics...
People are definitely afraid of me...
Some think I'm an undercover cop...
Others worry that I'm the first wave of gentrification...
The first fear is just paranoia...
The second one is actually legitimate...

Have a nice day...

I turn so white during the winter I look like a ghost. But seriously the only time I maybe had a bit of trouble was when I had really long hair, which apparently I looked like a run-down John Lennon and some people gave me  odd looks.

There are few people in my office commented me cause of my looking, they thought i'm going to beat them down for no reason.. xP Then later night, i went to "hobby" conference, some gamer gal came to me and asked: Hi, you look awesome, have you watched Alphaomegasin recently?? - Me: WTF xD

Ahh people love to judge the look.

That's you? :o

I'm kinda jelly, you look cool! Wish more people looked like that!

Lol no, he's Alphaomegasin. xD

This is just an example due to many people thinks i look like heavy metal. xP
