Forums - General Discussion - Joker VS. Carnage

Two of comicdom's greatest lunatics, one a mass murdering clown, the other an axe murderer bonded with an alien monster.

But who is better, the Clown Prince of Crime, or the son of Venom?

This isn't a "Who would win?" thread, keep that in mind, so this will be settled on these criteria:

-Who is more evil?

-Who is scarier?

-Who is more dangerous?

-Who is the better villain overall?

Let the sociopathic debate begin.

Joker wins in all of your selected categories.

I love Carnage (I am a symbiote slut, is what it is) but in recent years they have really done a serious number on the symbiotes and thus have taken some serious luster off them.

All that said, Joker is the greatest comic book villain of all time in my opinion, so yea.  Joker.

Is carnage even still relevant? Does he still appears in the comics?

Carnage has his own ongoing series right now.  Only on issue 5, but it is something.  Not a great read though.

Joker is a much much better villian.

So you could put Joker against Lex, Doom or Vader, but thought Carnage would be more fitting?

For real?

Yeah, really, this poll makes as much as sense as:

Better villain: Doctor Doom vs. Doomsday?

Joker is the better one in all those categories imo.

Carnage is cool, but they are in vastly different levels.

I think Wizard already had this battle or at least a "deadliest villains list" that explained who was number one and how they'd kill the other guys on the list.

I think it was:

10: Bullseye
9. Sabertooth
8. Carnage
7. Joker
6. Doomsday
5
4.
3. Magneto
2. Lex Luthor
1. Dr. doom

Can't remember the other guys. Anyway, Carnage would just fall for any of Joker's tricks. And New 52 Joker is on another level.

I'll go with Carnage on this.  Joker is nothing without his lackeys. Who would actually follow Joker when he's constantly being beaten by Batman and he's likely to kill his own allies/lackeys? He's just overrated.

-Who is more evil?
Carnage

-Who is scarier?
Carnage

-Who is more dangerous?
Carnage

-Who is the better villain overall?
The Joker

The first three don't necessarily add up to the last one. Carnage is a thing, a force, a terrifying presence, but the Joker has a personality beyond 'kill everyone'. A great villain needs to engage the audience at some level not just be killing machine.

Though, I'd pick many other villains over the Joker as 'better villains'. He is far overrated in my opinion, helped by his 'Joker Immunity'. Any reasonable justice system would have put him down long ago, for or against capital punishment be damned.

Joker, but only because it's not even a contest you could have pick a better villain than carnage
