I swear, necrobumping sounds like a spell straight out of a JRPG or something.

For me it sounds like a sexual term in Anime........

I'm actually OK with bumping old prediction threads.  If people are going to throw predictions out there, it's good to look back on those predictions later - and in some cases, it's very, very funny.

So we are allowed to necrobump prediction threads, then?

Don't worry about that. I'm sure I can think of a few more.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I'll necrobump this one next year, don't worry!

I've only necrobumped a single thread, it was a claim I did that turned out to be right, but I genuinely enjoy some necrobumpings sometimes, some really fun stuff to give a read, lol.

But that was covered in the rule in the first place (I remember the discussion):

  • "Necro-Bumping (Namely posting in a non-Official/Moderator approved thread 30 days after the most recent post) will be treated as a form of spamming if the post in question has no valid reason for being posted, or treated as a form of flaming/trolling if the post in question is malicious in its intent. It will be up the moderator to rule on whether a necro-bumping post is pertinent or not."
Bumping a prediction thread to laugh at people has always been acceptable in the rules as far as I can remember; same as bumping a thread about a news story which is updated with more reason news etc.. Actually, not to laugh at people but perhaps to more... "retrospectively consider older forecasts with the added benefit of hindsight" or something

At any rate, reminders are always good Star so, thanks!

Isn't it usually only ok if there's some new information relating to said prediction? eg. Somebody predicts a game will sell x amount by y date and then awhile later sales figures are released proving that prediction right/wrong.

I dunno, I've always felt like there was this blanket rule against necrobumping so by and large I've avoided bumping any prediction threads.

Kinda defeats the point of having such threads though, if you can't make a prediction that lasts more than a couple of weeks into the future.

If that's not the case, then good :P

Exactly.  What more valid reason is there than making fun of predictions that were hilariously wrong?

Well normally those predictions which are way off are mine so, I could think of a few reasons

We should make splatoon threads an exception :)

I might have to necrobump my Animal Crossing: New Leaf thread since I recently lost all my save data when doing a system transfer due to it being one of the few titles I own digital instead of physical.

What if I have a reason to bump my thread - after hearing of a specific news announcement?

Would I need to ask a moderator for permission before I do that?

Thread I'm talking about is kinda of a prediction thread but its more discussion about a particular franchise and the amount of stealth releases and official releases its getting on a certain platform.

In the forum rules, it states that necrobumping afte r30 days isn't allowed "if the post in question has no valid reason for being posted."

In the naure of say prediction threads for sales, if you wanna post in your thread long after 30 days, as long as your updating because you wanna show updated sales and say that you're right/wrong, that should be ok.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."
