You say that but very little negatives have come out about all three of the VR systems except for price..So perhaps its expectations. The PSVR has been played by many people at game shows for the last 12 months, I've yet to come across anything but positivity... of course we dont know the price yet, but I think people are just looking for VR experiences, and if PSVR is cheaper and even if its not as good technically, I think for the first round of tech people will be happy with that, because nothing else has come out before it...

Of course the first impressions are mostly positive now, it's easy to acquire since there is not much comparison to be made. All a VR product really needs now is functionality to impress but how about after 2-3 years? Can PSVR keep up if it's lower spec? What if real killer-app software comes up which the PSVR is not capable of running because of the lower specs and/or limited functionality, it's possible right? I'm just saying all these people asking for lower price are asking a compromise...you know there are already cheap VR options like Samsung Gear but then people say it's not good enough, yet people ask a cheap option from Sony but act like quality won't take a hit.

In 2-3 Years time the PS4 will still be sold, and as its built for that its not a problem. Of course the same could also be said of PC, they will technically get more powerful in 2-3 years time, the only problem is that there are so many different solutions then its more of a hassle. A PS4 out of the box doesnt need any headscratching to figure out if its powerful enough to run it.

I would expect that Sony will replace the VR when the PS5 comes out, alternatively the console will be more powerful and so thereby wont have a problem running better games perhaps or at least off loading some of the items onto the PS5 CPU/GPU rather than the dedicated processor in the box.

Yes there are a lot of "if's and buts" but I dont think its as problematic right now as you are making out.

What is the killer app, unless it can be run on cheaper hardware which lots of people will buy, I'm afraid there wont be any killer app for VR... at the moment the killer app for VR is VR itself, its the idea of being in the world. Could VIve and Oculus be cheaper in 3 years time but the problem is the now... if developers cannot get a situation where they can develop a title soley for VR, then it will be a standard game which can do VR, which imho is not a killer app. While the PS if cheap enough will have a better chance of selling more copies and thus giving developers more chance to develop specific VR only titles without as much risk. Of course VIVE and Oculus could pay companies to develop titles, and I suspect they are going to have to to push people towards their products in the longer term if the price doesnt reduce drastically.

Guys! Calm down!

I just worked it out.

What event happens in early April? 1st of April to be more specific. Gabe is going to pop out of a cake at the launch event, semi-naked with $299 drawn across his chest shouting "FOOLED YOU!"

Expected but yeah, seeing as Oculus is already a load of BS for us Aussies I can already imagine how bad this will be. Im thinking maybe $1399 at the cheapest here.

unlike Oculus/Facebook HTC actually has a distribution infra-structure all around the world, so I think taxes/shipping won't add as much to the Vive price

PS VR wins again.

And them he'll finish it by announcing half-life 3 exclusively for the HTC vive coming out the same day as the vive!

To the non PC users, of course that's going to go without saying. To those enthusiasts on PC, nothing has changed.

Both markets are different anyway.

I'm getting bad feelings for the VR market...

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Yes, they are seperate markets, this is true. But at these prices, they're never going to take off or become viable business platforms. It all reminds me of the early 90's 3DO days when there was alot of new tech revolving around disc based and handheld gaming. They all rushed to market with these over priced devices that were "supperior" tech wise with heavy price tags and they all failed. The Lynx and Gamegear got wasted by four shades of grey and the 3DO barely made a ripple.

The thing is that PSVR will be aiming for it;s core audience on it's own branded platform, not everyone else from all other platforms, the idea that because PSVR is cheaper somehow meaning everyone will factucally stop what they are doing and go only for that device sounds like that of a folly, I say that because there are expensive premiums in this world that have founded and still survive on their expensive prices. Back in the day when new things or tech/businesses started out expensive, sure some faded but in the end enough stayed alive to still exist on asking for top dollar. At the end of the day the enthusiast market definitely exists and definitely makes some good money, same with lavish and very expensive sports cars/houses/hotels/gadgets/peripheral vendors.

There shouldn't be some golden rule where everyone has and must adhere to the lowest common denominator, I honestly don't believe every business should really, if we did that then we would simply never advance nor would those seeking higher qualities at premium prices being able to get what they desire, this of course if why different markets thrive and exist. What HTC vive is aiming for is definitely not the casual market, not those who don't game on PC (lets be real for some people here, they were never once the target) and not those who love sticking to hardware from the early to mid 2000's. There comes a point where you need to upgrade to use new hardware the same way the big 3 ask each gen for you to jump ship, all they are asking for is for you to upgrade and early adopt or wait till it becomes cheaper (and still upgrade because sticking to really old hw is your own fault really).

I'd gladly pay those $799 to not see that.
